WIPPet Wednesday: The Contract

Blog_wippet

Happy Hump Day!

Good news: I am 2/3 to 3/4 through my WIP, Together We Will Live Forever (extremely tentative title).

Bad news: I haven’t been writing as much as I should this past week. There just isn’t enough hours in the day. Usually I catch up on a LOT of writing over the weekend, but recently people keep on dragging me out of the house… (Oh right, they are called friends.)

(As much as I love my real-life friends, sometimes I just want to curl up on my couch and write.)

This weekend, my fiancé is coming to visit me from all the way across the country (and when we are talking about Canada, it’s a long way)I am SO excited to see him again. But that also means writing is going on the back-burner.

Today’s snippet takes place before Olivia meets Matt, back when she is still dating Rudy. As we know, Rudy is a talented guitarist, singer, and songwriter who plays in an indie band and aspires to make it big. One day, he is offered a contract from a major record label:

“How are you not jumping up and down with me right now!?” She said. “We should totally celebrate, Roo. We should call over your friends and have a big party! We need to go across the street and buy some drinks!”

He smiled and traced a hand around the side of cheek and down to her chin.

“Maybe not tonight, Livey.”

Olivia frowned. Weird. Rudy was always in the mood for a good party. Usually, it would be Olivia who complained and packed her books up, shouting behind her shoulder, “I’m going to the library”, before slamming the door.

“Then…” She began, her lips widening into a seductive grin. She caressed his shoulders with her fingers. “How do you want to celebrate tonight?”

“Maybe we can have some wine,” He said. “And watch the Sound of Music.”

She frowned, her grin disappearing, her hands stopping at his forearm.

The Sound of Music was Rudy’s favourite movie. They’d only seen it together about ten times. Olivia knew all the lyrics of the songs by now. And she was sure that Rudy knew all of the lines.

And the thing was, you know Netflix and Chilling? That didn’t happen when Rudy watched the Sound of Music.

“The Sound of Music?” She said. “But you watch the Sound of Music when you’re sad.”

WIPpet Wednesdays is a blog hop where writers can share a snippet from their WIP. The only stipulation is that the excerpt is somehow related to the date. For example, today I have 10 paragraphs: 8 + 3 + 0 (from 8/30) minus 1 day left of August.

Be sure to check out some of the other lovely WIPpet snippets here. Thank you Emily Wrayburn for hosting.

  1. Oh, wow. Now I want to know why he’s upset. Is it about the contract or something else? Intriguing.

    1. Rudy has his reasons for feeling down that day. It’s not revealed until much later on in the book 😉 Thanks for dropping by!

  2. What an odd reaction. I wonder what’s going on.

  3. That’s like me listening to Queen. I mean, I listen to them all the time, but when I’m on a downer, I listen for hours, and my SO (he’s so good – he noticed this pattern, like Olivia with Rudy) will check to see I’m doing OK.

Poor Rudy. I’m looking forward to reading more. (Oh! Great snippet. :D)
