Celebrating 4 years of blogging!

Hello friends,

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for 4 years now. I was literally right in the middle of writing a blog post, then I was like, WAIT A MINUTE IT’S MAY AGAIN! Lol :’)

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging these days. With reading, writing, and now baby on board, blogging usually falls to the end of my to-do list.

Thinking about the old days when I first began blogging, I really enjoyed each moment of it. I loved writing blog posts, replying to comments, blog-hopping. But now that my time is limited, blogging became one of the things that I just had to do, and sometimes it gets in the way of… relaxing and enjoying the spare time I have. Now, writing my blog posts is just a checkmark that I have to check. It often feels like an obligation.

After years of writing reviews, tags, and discussion posts, I just don’t feel the same excitement about doing these types of posts anymore. Also, in recent months, this blog has become mostly reviews but… well, because of recent events, I feel like I can’t be honest with my reviews anymore. This is in particular because I am an aspiring writer and if I do become agented and published one day in YA/MG, the authors of the books I review will one day become my colleagues, and publishers will become the folks who pay me. The only reason why I enjoy writing reviews (and why I write them in the first place) is so that I can be honest, so if I can’t be honest, I’d rather not write them.

(I do have one more review coming up, which is a pre-scheduled blog tour, but after that, that’s it. No more reviews for me.)

So, what will become of Sophie’s Corner? I’m not sure. What I do know is that I love blogging, which is a way for me to reflect on my day-to-day life and keeps me centered. I love reading and will never, ever give that up, and I don’t think I’ll ever graduate from children’s fiction. I also love all of YOU–the community that has inspired me to keep reading and keep writing–even though I haven’t been the best at keeping up with comments (really really sorry.)

I do want to reconsider the type of posts I will write. I will keep blogging about books to some degree, and maybe do some writing and/or life updates once in a while. Though I’ve always been a creature of habit, I want to take away my blogging schedule for once and instead post when I want. I think that’s the only way I can continue blogging while still enjoying it.

All I know is, life is too short to spend time doing what I don’t love. And I want to keep blogging in a way that is enjoyable for me. I won’t be giving up blogging any time soon. But after 4 years of blogging about the same stuff, I think it’s about time that I think about what I really want to write about.

Wherever you are, wishing you a happy May! Happy reading (if you’re reading) and writing (if you’re writing.) Take care, and make sure to make time for YOU, and do more of what you love.
