Mid Year Freakout Book Tag!!

Hello everyone!

Did I hear myself right?? Are we halfway through 2020? Part of me feels like the year has flown by, but the other part of me feel like 2020 couldn’t pass any slower haha. It’s been a trainwreck of a year so far, hasn’t it?

Anyway, as usual during this time of the year, we freak out a bit because there are so many great books we haven’t yet read yet!! And there are also amazing books that we’ve read that we want to shout about!! I always have so much fun doing this tag. Thank you to Caro for tagging me. Please check out her version of the post which is so fun to read. Credits go to Earl Grey Books and ReadLikeWildFire for creating the original tag although the video has since then been removed.

Best Book you’ve read so far in 2020?

Hands down, the books in the Nevermoor series. The characters and the magical setting had me immersed in the story right away. It gave me all the Harry Potter vibes! Once I started reading I couldn’t stop!

Best Sequel you’ve read so far in 2020?

I really enjoyed Scarlet, Cress and Winter which are books 2, 3, and 4 of The Lunar Chronicles series. Each book had a pair of fascinating characters with great chemistry, and a great story to boot. This is one of the few series I can think of that don’t suffer from the middle book syndrome. Each book was fast-paced and full of action. I couldn’t stop reading once I started.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?

I’ve heard lots of great things about You Asked for Perfect, published March 2019, however I haven’t had a chance to read it yet!

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

Oh boy I’m really looking forward to the third book in the Nevermoor series, Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow which is to be released in August 2020!

Did I mention that I’ve been also waiting for the Mulan remake?!! I loved the old animated Disney movie and to be honest I am nervous that this one will be different (and sounds like it will be) but still I’m very very excited!!

 Biggest disappointment?

I enjoyed most of the books I’ve read this year so it’s hard for me to answer this one. I’ll go with The Bride Test because I didn’t like it as much as the first book in the series.

Biggest surprise?

It has to be Front Desk!! The cover looks fun and whimsical but this book actually talks about racism and the cycle of poverty and other tough stuff. I liked how it follows the story of a girl who immigrated from China with her family, which I could relate so much to.

Favorite new author (Debut or new to you)?

Kelly Yang is a new-to-me author of MG and YA books that I will be following intently ever since reading Front Desk!

Newest Favorite Character?

I like Jacob from City of Ghosts! His friendship with Cassidy is so adorable!!

Book that made you cry?

Too many hahahaa! I’m a bit embarrassed to list all the books that made me cry but here they are

Book that made you happy?

Space Case was a really fun and fast-paced MG mystery that I was happy to read. It was also very addictive!

Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation?

Little Women! Pssst… I cheated a bit here though, since I never read the original classic.

Favorite Review?

Here’s my review of Daisy Jones & The Six!

Daisy Jones & The Six

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Too many to list!! Here is a snapshot.

I tag these awesome people: The Orangutan Librarian, Marie, Olivia, Vee, Malka, and Annie.

How would you answer some of these questions? What are some of your favourite books you’ve read this year? What books do you still need to read?

  1. Thanks for the tag, Sophie!!! I love all the MG books you listed in this post. I don’t typically read MG so I think some of these might be a nice way to switch up my reading 🙂

    1. Hi Annie!! I only started reading a lot of MG this year and fell in love with this category of books. I love how light and heartwarming MG books tend to be. Hope that you will enjoy some MG books as well!

    1. Haha yes many MG books make me cry!! I love how the characters in MG are innocent yet resilient and go through quite a lot over the course of a book.

Ahh I also love Jacob from City of Ghosts so much ❤ And I’m the same that I cry in SO many books. Good luck with your reading in the second half of the year!!

    1. Yes I loved the original Mulan movie and wouldn’t have wished for it to be different, so I’m not sure about this new one, but we’ll see?? Hope that we’ll both enjoy it 🙂
Aw we are both marshmallows when it comes to books! Hope that you will find many more great reads in the rest of 2020 too!

It’s lovely that you’ve enjoyed so many middle grade books. I don’t seem to cry in books?? Movies yes, books no. At least not yet. I hope you love the rest of your 2020 reads ☺️

  12. Thanks so much for the tag, Sophie! I can’t wait to answer all of these questions!

You Asked For Perfect is so, so good! I love that book and I really hope that you love it as well! I’m so glad you plan on reading it by the end of the year!

Also, I felt similarly to you about The Bride Test! I thought everything about The Kiss Quotient was perfection, and although I still liked The Bride Test, it was also a bit disappointing because it didn’t live up to the amazingness that was The Kiss Quotient!

    1. Hi Malka! Thank you! Yes I had higher expectations for The Bride Test. I can’t wait to read You Asked for Perfect 🙂

i really can’t wait to read Nevermoor! i’ve heard such good things 🥺🥺 also, i love Little Women so much too! i’ve also never read the book though, hehe. but the movie really deserved its best picture nomination! the costume design was so good, and idk, the movie was just so wholesome, and i adore how everyone ended up. i also like that this adaptation didn’t villainize Amy & gave justice to her character
wishing you an amazing rest of your reading year ❤
