  • And lastly, tag 11 bloggers!

The Questions

#1: Do you watch shows in foreign languages frequently? Any recommendations?

I’ve watched this anime called Love is Like After the Rain which I loved SO much. The plot synopsis is misleading (high school girl falls in love with her restaurant manager who is 46-years old) but in reality it is more about pursuing our dreams regardless of our age. I love how relatable the two MCs are, and I especially find myself relating to the 46-year-old male MC who dreams about being a writer (!!!!!!) I also love how real every aspect of this show is, from the dialogues to the characters to the events, and how nothing is overblown or made more dramatic than they actually are.

#2: What place do you consider your home?

Hahahahhahahahahaa……. Tough one! Is it too cheesy to say that home is where my words are? It could be the worst day, but if I could open my laptop or my notebook and continue working on my novel, then I am back in my happy place.

#3: Name a book character that you would be the best of friends with.

I can absolutely imagine being friends with Johanna from The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. I love how determined she is to pursue her goals, and how she can be feminine and fierce at the same time.

#4: What fictional country/world would you like to be able to travel to?

HOGWARTS FTW.

#5: Tropical weather or snowy weather?

Hands down tropical! I’m a sunshine type of girl 🙂

#6: What’s the most extreme environment you’ve ever been in?

I was knee-deep in snow while wearing shorts. This happened when we went hiking in Banff. It was in mid-June but I wasn’t prepared by how snowy the mountains were once we got up there. It was only when we returned from the hike when we found out the trail we hiked was supposed to be closed because of an avalanche, hahaha :’)

#7: Ugliest book cover you own?

Hmm tough choice because I don’t own that many physical books! That being said, this edition of The Great Gatsby doesn’t seem all too exciting.

#8: Prettiest book cover you own!

I haven’t read this compilation by the Bronte Sisters yet but isn’t it gorgeous?! I picked it up from a second-hand store during my travels and kept it ever since.

#9: What’s the coolest conversation you’ve had with someone because you were reading a book in public?

Hmm……. my memory fails me here haha. These days I mostly read books on my phone, so it isn’t apparent that I am actually reading a book haha. That being said, my fiancé and I often have very interesting conversations when we listen to audiobooks together in the car. Last time we had a discussion about diversity in YA.

#10: What’s the most interesting place you’ve read a book in?

On the pebble beach of Nice I read the Chobits manga (the French edition!)

#11: And lastly… favorite post you’ve written so far on your blog?

Ooooh another tough one!!! I’ll have to go with this one that I posted around the time of my 28th birthday:

  1. I’m flattered by your nomination. Thank you.
It was fun to read your answers.
The Bronte Sisters… I’ve heard about them, but don’t remember what exactly. Thanks. Now I’ve got to go do some research.

    1. Thank you!!! I haven’t read anything by the Bronte Sisters either but maybe it is time to give them a try 🙂

  2. Thanks for the tag 🙂

I don’t think i ever had a convo with someone cuz i was reading something.
I mean, people tend to interrupt me in the office when i’m reading on my break, but apart from one colleague, nobody actually asks about the book specifically.

  4. Yay I loved reading your answers!! And I loved that you said that writing is your happy place. I can understand that because if I am feeling bad sometimes I will just write and I distracted myself from what I was feeling and feel happy about writing!!
Yes I would love to go to Hogwarts too (of course)!!
OMG, hiking in snow doesn’t sound fun!! Ah the detail on the bronte sisters book is beautiful!! Reading on a beach sounds perfect!! Thank you so, so much for the nomination and I look forward to answering your questions!! ❤

    1. Definitely 🙂 I love that writing is always a great experience, whether it’s been a good day or a bad one.
Yes living in Hogwarts would be wonderful 🙂 yay looking forward to reading your answers!!

      1. Yes actually!! I know, I am surprised they haven’t made a Hogwarts castle for people to stay over in yet!! Thank you ❤

      2. YEAH! That sounds like it would be a really good idea actually hahaha. I would love to live in a Hogwarts castle 😀

  5. Ooooh Love is Like After the Rain sounds so interesting, now I want to watch it! Even though your hike in Banff was probably not the safest, I haven’t been in an extremely snowy environment in such a long time. I’d love to experience something like that… but perhaps not in a place that was meant to be close because of avalanche warnings? 😆

I enjoyed reading all of your answers! ❤️

    1. Yes I really liked that anime! It does have a slower pace however and is more slice-of-life than drama, however if that sounds like something you might like then I highly recommend it!
Haha in hindsight that hike was not too safe! Hope that you’ll get the chance to experience a very snowy (but safer!) environment in the future. Thank you Zoie ❤

  6. Thanks so much for the nomination Sophie, and I really loved reading your answers too. Johanna in The Lady’s Guide was a brilliant character, she was so determined to not let anyone stand in her way and I also liked that she didn’t let Felicity put her down just because she liked dresses and looking pretty as well. I feel like everyone want’s to go to Hogwarts, it’s a cliche answer sure but that’s because it’s such an iconic world and in my opinion a must as well. 😀
I can’t imagine being stuck in shorts in knee-deep snow. That must have been so uncomfortable, the most cold I’ve ever been was in Romania, I thought my toes would freeze off despite wearing thermals, I can’t imagine being there wearing shorts!
Great post, and again thanks for the nomination. 🙂 ❤

    1. Absolutely! I love how Johanna is both feminine and fierce. Just goes to show that strong female MCs can wear skirts too 🙂
Yes Hogwarts is such a magical world hahah. When I was in school, I wished that I could learn magic at hog warts instead (and I still do haha)
Haha when we were hiking in the mountains we were too excited to care about the cold I guess? Probably not very safe in hindsight!! I haven’t been to Romania but I am very curious about the country 🙂 thank you ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Exactly, now we kind of have enough kick-ass characters in books, we need characters who are feminine and fierce like you said.
School would have been so much better if we’d been learning magic instead! 🙂
I suppose that’s one way to beat the cold! I’d recommend going to Romania, there’s a lot to see in the country but if you go in the Winter you’re definitely going to need more than shorts! 🙂

      2. Definitely 🙂 I will for sure keep Romania in mind!

  7. Thanks for nominating me, Sophie! I’m almost done editing my Book Blogger Confession tag, and will do this one at a later point as well. 😀

On your answer for question no. 1, I’ve been urging myself to be more open-minded when it comes to huge age gaps in romances. I’m rather open-minded when it comes to gay romances where the partners are two decades apart. But with cishet romances, I’m much more close-minded, especially if the older one is the guy and the younger one is the woman. (So I don’t get the “older man, younger woman” appeal. It makes me feel that the guy will take advantage of the girl. But then again, maybe the girl wants to outlive her husband and get all his inheritance. Sorry, I’m so mean, lol.) SOMETIMES I can tell myself that as long as they’re happy, who cares? Yet, I find that it’s easier (but still challenging) to be more open-minded to “much older man, much younger woman couples” in real life, but much harder in fiction.

Speaking of, I recently read a book review where a female reviewer said she thought the male MC was too soft. She wanted him to be more dominant and alpha. One of the commenters on her review said, isn’t that toxic masculinity? LOLL yeah, again, I don’t want to kink-shame anyone, but I prefer my boys to be soft. No idea why some people like dominance and alpha-hood. *Shudders* In addition, I think it’s a problem that many assume that in a cishet couple, the woman is always the sub and bottom, and the man is always the dom and top. (This is boring as hell.) Honestly I would love to read a sex scene where the woman is a dom top and the man is a sub bottom. For those who say it’s anatomically impossible for cishet men and women to do this, they have probably never heard of pegging.

    1. Yay!!! Looking forward to your post.

Yeah I do know what you mean about big age gaps. Typically I find it way too cliche for a older man and a younger woman to get together, since it’s kind of the old-fashioned way of doing this? I thought that I would be disturbed by this anime but I wasn’t haha. The story was well told and I loved that there wasn’t too much focus on the romance itself. I can see how it would be easier to tolerate an age gap when it is a gay romance haha 🙂

I love soft male MCs!!!!! Because of this I think all the male MCs I write about are as soft as marshmallows hahahahha. I do think that wanting men to be the “alpha” male would be toxic masculinity. For there to be gender equality, there should not only be strong female MCs but also softer male MCs, as much as there are soft female MCs and strong male MCs 🙂

    1. Hello Dominique!! Yay another Hogwarts fan!! That is definitely a place that I would live anyway 🙂
My Easter weekend was super hectic (I moved to a new apartment hahaha) but it’s all good now. Hope that you’ve had a wonderful Easter as well 🙂

      1. Yes, I enjoyed the Easter weekend. I had some time to relax (writing a blog post) and we (my hubby and son) went to visit my dad for his 79th birthday. I don’t get to see him often enough because of work and it is always fun to get the chance to talk with him. He is a wonderful and inspiring man. Apart from that I didn’t do much though. You know, same old, same old… Chores and cleaning. Hope you will enjoy your new apartment Sophie. Keep well.
