Book Blogger Confessions Tag!

Hello everyone!

I realized that I haven’t done a book tag for a long time. Like, an eternity. Or something like that. So GUESS WHAT I am going to do a book tag!!!!!

Thank you to Rebecca @ Bookishly Rebecca for tagging me! Rebecca has some pretty awesome posts on her blog so be sure to check out her blog if you haven’t yet!

RULES:

  • Answer these questions truthfully.
  • Once you’re done, tag 5 other book bloggers to answer these questions next.

1. Which book, most recently, did you not finish?

That is a hard question! There are a lot of books that I stop reading, thinking “Hmm, I’ll come back to this later” (though realistically I don’t come back to the book ever because there are many more interesting books to read). There are also books that I consciously think “I am going to stop reading this book. Forever. Full stop.”

There aren’t any recent books in the last category but here are my selections for the former category:

I don’t have reason to dislike these books, but I’m just not feeling them at the moment.

2. Which book is your guilty pleasure?

My most recent guilty pleasure is The Epic Crush of Genie Lo. Although I had some qualms about this book and gave it a 3-star review, I kind of actually enjoyed it. It’s based on Chinese mythology, and I am from China, and every time “Sun Wukong” was mentioned just made me want to scream out from my happy hill hahahah 🙂

3. Which book do you love to hate?

Have I not been complaining about Want since the beginning of time? (Or uh, actually since 2017.)

4. Which book would you throw into the sea?

I don’t talk about this book much because it was a DNF. The House of God was recommended to me as a really great/famous/revolutionary novel about working as an intern doctor in a hospital. However I found the language really disturbing and offensive.

5. Which book have you read the most?

If we don’t count mandatory school-related reading, then the answer is probably Harry Potter Book #4!

6. Which book would you hate to receive as a gift?

It would be hard to pick a specific book, but I’d say any book that I already have a copy of, or a book that I already read lol. Typically I am pretty picky about rereading, most books I would only read once!

7. Which book could you not live without?

Wow it’s so hard to pick! There are so many books that I love! For this question I’ll pick my favourite book of all time which is The Book Thief. This book softened me up and taught me about people and history and maybe, just maybe, made me a kinder person?

8. Which book made you angriest?

Despite all the hype about the Crazy Rich Asian franchise, I did not like the book that much. I wasn’t angry, but I was feeling annoyed and burnt out by the 101th time it described how carpets were rimmed with emeralds, ceilings embedded with diamonds, and gowns so expensive that the common people have not heard of the designer name. Get with the story, people.

9. Which book made you cry the most?

I would answer The Book Thief for this one, but since I’ve already used that answer, I’ll pick two more for this question! Flowers for Algernon and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo both moved me to tears (and then I am that strange girl sniffling on the train/flight LOL)

10. Which book cover do you hate the most?

Book covers don’t affect me TOO much since I read most of my books in eBook or audiobook format, however they do influence me still, since it is the first thing I see on Goodreads or when reading reviews by bloggers!

There is no book cover that I hate, however I like some book covers more than others. I wasn’t a big fan of the cover of Anna and the French Kiss, because, come on, the bench, the grass, the Eiffel Tower look obviously Photoshopped in.

I’m tagging these awesome bloggers!

As always, please don’t feel obligated to do this tag if you have been tagged. If you haven’t been tagged but want to do this tag, please go ahead and give it a go!

What are your recent DNF(s)? Any guilty pleasures? Any recent books that you disliked? What are your blogger confessions?

  1. Oh I’m not a fan of this edition of Anna and The French Kiss at all, either, I’m so glad there are other, prettier editions for this book haha. And I can’t wait to read Evelyn Hugo, really, the fact that this book moved so many people to tears makes me SO excited to read it, strangely hahaha. 🙂
    Lovely answers!

  2. I really loved reading all your answers for this Tag! 😊 And wait … you didn’t like Want as well? Omg finally, I thought that I was the only person who did not fall in love with the book 😂 Everyone seems to be a fan and I was just … not. But I also love The Book Thief, it is such a fantastic book that gets me every time 💗

    1. Hey Caro!!
Oh WOW, and I thought I was the only one who didn’t like Want hahaha. I thought the characters were too perfect and didn’t have real character flaws. Also at the very end of the book, there is a drug (that is invented by a 19-year-old) that they tested on one or two people, and then was FDA-approved within months. First of all 19-year-olds don’t invent drugs (last time I checked?) and a drug needs to work on more than 2 people for it to be FDA approved, and usually it’s a HUGE lengthy process to get stuff approved by the FDA. I just thought that the research was lacking there. Hahaha yeah that is my spiel XD
Yeah The Book Thief is amazing 🙂

  3. Great answers! Although…. I actually enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians 🙂 I agree that some of the description gets REALLY long, though – the characters and drama were what I enjoyed! And I have the Book Theif on my list to read within the next few months… I’ve heard so many people say it’s their favorite!!

    1. Hey Jordyn! Yeah I can see how some people really liked Crazy Rich Asians and I guess I have more of an unpopular opinion haha 🙂 I am in general quite impatient when it comes to long, flowery descriptions and such 🙂
Hope that you will enjoy The Book Thief 🙂

      1. Hi! I loved CRA also because of the detailed descriptions. Then again I LOVE the Real Housewives Series. Anytime someone talks about their possessions the audience knows how vain they are. However, I liked your perspective on this part of the story. I never thought the materialism would come off as lagging in the story. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Your answer about which book you’d throw into the sea… xD I feel like as a literature grad, and especially when I was a student, I’d get that sort of rec all the timee and I was always weary specifically for that reason. Older books and their dated ideas just don’t mesh with me a lot of the time xD loved this tag!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Yeah absolutely. I don’t mind reading some older books but in this case The House of God was really not fun to read haha. As you said, dated ideas 🙂 Thank you Melissa!

  5. I DNF’d Hooked On Murder, the audiobook. It’s supposed to be a cozy mystery series with a theme of crochet but it irritated me that the MC didn’t crochet herself nor did she know the difference between knitting and crochet. I’ll have to look up that Harry Potter history book; I don’t think I’ve read it but it sounds familar.

    1. Yeah it’s frustrating when a book presents itself in a misleading way! I haven’t read Hooked on Murder but I think it’s good that you DNF’d it when you realized that you wouldn’t enjoy it 🙂
Yeah A History of Magic wasn’t as exciting and fantastical as I expected haha. It was more history than magic, let’s just say 🙂

  7. Yes I think Harry Potter is a really great series to reread and I do really like the fourth book.
The book thief is such a good story and I can say it definitely taught me things as well so that is a good pick!!
Books can make you cry on public transport– the dangers of reading outside 😂
Yeah the Anna and the French kiss cover isn’t the best at all– it’s a good thing that they got new covers 😂
Lovely tag!!! And thank you so much for the nomination– I really appreciate it and I look forward to doing it!! ❤

But haha, why do you feel guilty about liking a book with Sun Wukong? 😄

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Feel free to do this tag if you are interested hahaha 😀
As for why that book with Sun Wukong is a guilty pleasure, I don’t know haha. I guess it’s because I know there are a lot of problems with the book but I couldn’t help but still enjoy it haha

      1. Oh haha I thought you felt there was something bad about liking Sun Wukong. XD LOLLL I’m thinking about a book that would be my guilty pleasure now.

  13. I completely agree – “Flowers for Algernon” is a very moving book. The protagonist builds so much hope in the middle of the book and it all crashes down in the end.

    1. Yes definitely. It was a heartbreaking book in some ways 🙂
