Hello everyone!

Thank you Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall for tagging me. Kelly’s blog is amazing so be sure to check it out! This tag was originally created by Emily @ Wicked Good Reads.

This is going to be a challenging tag for me – As you guys may know, I have a very very tiny physical bookshelf because most books that I read are in the form of ebooks, audiobooks and/or library books. However I will try this tag with just the physical books on my shelf 🙂

A Library Book

I don’t currently have any physical books checked out from the library, but the most recent book I borrowed was Anna and the French Kiss which was a fun and delightful read!

A Book You Got As A Gift

I am actually surprised that Animal Farm was the only book on my shelf that was a gift (unless you count the books and ebooks that I bought using Indigo and Amazon gift cards!) This was given to me by a friend back in high school. I loved it so much which is why it still has a place on my shelf today.

Of course how can I not mention Harry Potter when it comes to childhood books!?

Carry On was one of my favourite YA fantasy reads of all time. It made me laugh and it kept me hooked from beginning to end!

You know I don’t have too many romances on my shelf if I have to pick Rebecca for this one. By the way, this is the copy that I found in a used bookstore which I think is beautiful!

Haha as much as I like steamy books, Brokeback Mountain is the closest thing to a steamy book on my physical shelf.

I love love LOVE this copy of The Bronte Sisters, a compilation of Charlotte and Emily Bronte’s works that I found in a used book store. It is still in pristine condition!

I loved the series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before so much, although I only have the first book in its physical form. I am terrible at collecting series lol 🙂

    I really want to read both Animal Farm and Brokeback Mountain. They’re both classics I need to tick off the list! Great post😊

    I love all your answers, Sophie! I haven’t read any of Charlotte’s work yet, but I just adore Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. And I have yet to read Animal Farm! 💗

      I actually haven’t touched the Bronte Sisters book yet (it’s just too heavy to carry around with me haha!) Thats great that you liked Wuthering Heights. I remember loving Animal Farm back in the days though it’s been a long time. It’s a pretty short book so it didn’t take long to get through 🙂

      Yes the Bronte sisters book is one of my favs on my bookshelf appearance-wise, though I haven’t had a chance to read it yet lol. (It’s too heavy to carry around!)

    Great answers for this tag Sophie. ❤️ The illustrated Harry Potter books are beautiful, honestly I think they’re some of my favourite books simply because of how beautiful they are (and because, well, it’s Harry Potter!) 😀
    I haven’t borrowed a book from the library in years, I don’t know if I’d be able to answer that question at all, and The Book Thief is definitely a book that makes me emotional. I can never re-read it without ending up in tears, and the movie is even worse for making me cry. Have you seen the film yet?

      I knew that there must be illustrated HP books out there! I will have to look for those one of these days 🙂
      I haven’t seen the movie for the Book Thief yet but it is definitely on my list 🙂

        Definitely, they’re well worth buying just for the illustrations. 🙂
        Oh well if the book made you cry the movie will do the same but worse. I found it more emotional, maybe because I was watching it happen rather than just reading it you know?

    Lolol 99% of what I read nowadays are ebooks. And 99% of the physical books I read now are for school. The novels I read are almost always gay romances, i.e. they are likely to have two (often half-naked) men on the cover. I do care about my safety, so I wouldn’t want to carry those books around and risk getting attacked by homophobes…

    Besides, I like ebooks more. Though physical books CAN be aesthetically pleasing, I find them heavy, and their words are often very small. Plus, I live in a tiny apartment, so I literally don’t have the space. Kindles are wonderful that I can enlarge the text. It’s embarrassing for me when I see old ladies reading Kindle books with much smaller text than mine, but well, I just have to accept that my eyes are weaker than most people’s, including elderly people’s, it seems. 😦

    Ahhh I’m completely with you that Brokeback Mountain should have had a different ending. I’m in denial about the ending, lol.

      Yay! Another ebook fan! I agree that Ebooks are so much lighter, convenient and discrete to carry around. And it is great that we can adjust things like text size and background colour too. I also like that I can read Ebooks at night without turning on the light lol. Now that I am in Vancouver, I also have a super tiny apartment and no room for physical books so electronic versions are perfect for me!
      These days I am in an audiobook phase. I love audiobooks since I can listen to books when I am walking, cooking, cleaning, exercising or doing crafts. It is an efficient way to read while getting things done 🙂

      And yes!!! The ending to Brokeback Mountain was heartbreaking. I would love for that book/movie to have a happy or even bittersweet ending

        Wolf Totem by Jiang Rong. I read it in Chinese. It’s an international bestseller, but I feel like it’s better known within Chinese-speaking countries, haha, so you might not have heard of it.

    Despite the physical limitations you did a great job at answering those questions. Where I live the library isn’t very well stocked with the books we want so all books in our library are owned by us. I read both ebooks and paper books but I am not too thrilled about audio books.

      Thanks Michael 🙂 I do feel very fortunate to have a library that stocks lots of books that I like which I know is not the case everywhere! I like ebooks and paperbacks but I’ve recently been in an audiobook phase. It takes a while to get used to but I find that it is an efficient way to read books when I am on the go

    Oh you’re so lucky to have found that Brontë book, Sophie! It looks absolutely lovely ❤ The Rebecca one, too ❤ And yes, I totally have a thing for foiled lettering hahaha

    I've only read HP from your list but I did read the third book in the Anna and the French Kiss series and watched To All the Boys I've Loved Before, if that counts? ^^'

        Oh I loved it! I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much but I did. It was just so cute and adorable – even if it was cliché as heck I didn’t mind at all hahaha

    *gasp* Have you not seen the illustrated HP books?? Bloomsbury only came out with illustrated editions of the first three HP books for now, and they’re all so beautiful 😍 The books are huge and square, and though I don’t own any copies, I have flipped through the pages at bookstores. I would definitely recommend just flipping through the pages to admire the illustrations! At the same time, though, I’m glad I read the HP books without illustrations as a child because I was able to create my image of the characters and Hogwarts with my imagination. Illustrations sort of take that imagination and creative aspect away from the readers, don’t you think? Anyways, I enjoyed reading your choices for this tag! 😋

      Oh wow! I would have to track down those illustrated editions of HP. I do agree though that it was fun to make up the appearances of characters and places in our minds as we read. Often when I look at fan art, official artwork or movie adaptations of a book I read, the characters look much different from what I envisioned!
      For HP I actually saw the first movie before I read the book, so the HP characters will forever look like the movie crew in my mind lol 🙂

        Oh that’s interesting! I’m trying to think of a book where I saw the movie adaptation before the novel, and nothing is surfacing in my mind… do you regret seeing the HP movie before the book, or did you like having a visual representation of all the characters while reading the series?

        I definitely don’t regret watching the HP movie first, in fact it is what inspired me to read the books! I like having an idea of what hogwarts and the HP characters looked like going into the novel, though I am curious if I would have imagined the characters differently if I read the novels first. I’m wondering how you feel about the HP movies? Were the characters and setting very different from how you imagined them and did it affect how much you enjoyed the movies?

        Hmmm… I didn’t watch any of the HP movies until Part 1 of the Deathly Hollows came out, and I clearly remember binge-watching all the first six movies at home in one day 😂 I actually loved watching the movies — you can imagine how magical it is for a kid to have their favorite book series in the world be made into a movie where Hogwarts and magic seemed like it was *real*. The looks of the actors didn’t surprise me that much, since I had seen HP franchise floating around before, and overall I felt like the movies enhanced my imagination for the HP world. 😊 I definitely love both the books and movies, though the books will always have a special place in my heart! 😋

        That’s great to hear that you had a good experience with the movies even though you read the books first 🙂 It makes sense that the books will always be special to you! In a way I feel like the first HP movie is special for me as well (I remember watching it at least 10 times when I was a kid haha.)
