B&W Photo Challenge: Colour and Explanations

Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of MINI-REVIEW-5

Hello everyone!

How are you all doing? Hope you guys enjoyed the B&W Photo Challenge last week! A big thanks to Darren @ The Arty Plantsman for the nomination. Darren has a beautiful garden and also creates botanical art. Be sure to check out his blog!

Today I will reveal the colour versions of the photos and to tell you a bit of the story about them.

Day 1

As many of you may have guessed, this is Zander, the new addition to our family! He is a senior dog that we adopted from a shelter a few weeks ago, and he’s already made it into our hearts. I think in my previous post I said that Zander was 10 years old, however there is new evidence that he might be 14!

In this photo, we’d just given Zander a bath and he was shivering quite a bit. We tried to cover him with a towel (though he would always shake it off!)

Day 2

This is a covered walkway near my building which is decorated with pretty drawings of umbrellas (designed by children) and Christmas-style lights! This is a construction site for a new building, so I appreciate the effort to beautify it.

Day 3

Many of you are impressed by this table! So are we! When my fiance and I saw this table at a charity shop, we fell in love at first sight. That steam-punk style! The height is adjustable by turning the wheel!? It appealed to the inner child in us and we knew we had to buy it right away.

However, it turned out to not very practical. We wanted to use it as our dining table, but there is no leg room! On the plus side, it looks super awesome and is a great conversation starter when we get visitors :’)

Day 4

You guys were pretty curious about this sign that I have! It is a felt letter-board with attachable letters, which means that you can piece together your own message (and change it up whenever you feel like it!) I purchased this letter-board to support my friend’s business. If you’re looking for something like this for your own home, check out her product here on Amazon (just $22.89 CAD which is a steal!)

Day 5

Despite this rainbow is black-and-white, it is awesome that many of you were able to correctly guess what it was! This is the view from my window after a rainy day. It was the most complete rainbow I’ve ever seen so I had to capture it on camera.

I can’t decide whether I like the colour or black and white version better: Although I appreciate the colours of the rainbow, I think it is cool that you can see the rainbow even in the black and white version. Which do you like better?

Day 6

You guys guessed correctly that this is Charles, our first fur baby! He is such a diva and knows exactly how to pose for the camera. Here he is pretending to snuggle up with his toy, mini-Charles. (Pretending, because Charles in actuality does not like snuggling up with his toys…… Haha okay, I’ll confess that we staged this photo :’) )

Day 7

Isn’t this one awesome? Doesn’t it look like a cabin floating in the clouds? I would love to live in a place like this (or just have a cabin like this where I can occasionally retreat to for some quality writing time haha).

If you are curious, this is an art installation on the waterfront of Vancouver city 🙂

My full list of nominees for this challenge: Dominique @ 3C Style, Mel @ A Word and a Whisper, Me and Ink, Sieran @ A Wild and Stormy Mind, Stefanie @ Stefanie Crafts with Wool Paper Fabric, Asha @ The Musing Quill, and Haidan @ Haidan Writes

Feel free to take part in this challenge whenever you have the time. No worries if this is not your thing! On the other hand, if you haven’t been challenged but want to participate, consider yourself nominated!

  2. Loved hearing the explanations. I think it is really had to decide which are my favourite versions- colour or black and white? I quite like the effect the black and white has on the photos, its fun to see both though. I too love that you can see the rainbow on the black and white one. I really like the last photo of the cabin art illustration, I could see it as a piece of wall art. Great photos.

  3. I love all of your photos so much, Sophie, and that photo of Zander is adorable, I hope he has been adjusting well! ❤ I love the idea of a board with letters you can put in any way you can, to write any message you want, definitely having that when I get my own home someday 🙂

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment Marie ❤ Zander has been adjusting well, though he has a bit of arthritis so he has to walk slowly, but overall he is doing well 🙂

  4. Oh my god so in your previous days photo I said the cabin looked like an art installation I saw at the V&A museum a few years back and it turns out it’s an art installation in Vancouver! I guessed right and I didn’t even know I was guessing! 😀
All your photos are amazing Sophie, obviously the ones of Zander and Charles are my favourites. 🙂 Also when it comes to the rainbow I think I prefer the black and white one, the rainbow just looks more striking you know?
Great post, and great photos for all these days. 🙂 ❤

    1. Yes that was a great guess!!! I think you were the only one who got that right 🙂
I agree that I like the black and white rainbow better as well. Somehow the rainbow stands out more even when it is not in colour 🙂
      Thank you Beth ❤

      1. Whoop! 🙂 My accidental guess turns out to be my best one.
Yeah funny about that. I guess because the rest of the photo is in black and white there’s not too much colour to take away from the rainbow you know?
        That’s all right! 🙂 ❤️

  5. This is really great for those of us who are curious about your life on the West Coast 😉 Even though I don’t usually do photo-y things on my blog, looking at this makes me I want to do a little something… maybe a one-day lite version or something because this looks like fun! Thanks for tagging me!

    1. Hello Haidan 🙂 Yup you can absolutely do your own interpretation of this challenge! One of my fellow bloggers did a one-day post where she displayed 7 B&W photos with their coloured counterparts 🙂 Hope that you’ll get a chance to do this challenge and looking forward to seeing your photos!

  6. It was so fun to read your explanation for the photos! The fullest rainbow I’ve ever seen was actually one that looked like a complete half-circle… and I got to see it right outside my house, too 😊 The table definitely looks cool, but I can see how it would be impractical as a dining table — but at least it adds to the aesthetics of your home! 😆

    1. Hello Zoie!
That’s amazing that you saw a full rainbow! It must have been a great sight!
Haha yes at the very least the table is pretty :’) Thank you Zoie!
