June Goals and TBR!

Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of MINI-REVIEW-4

Hello everyone!

Yay! It’s the beginning of a new month!

To be honest, June is going to be a busy one for me. There will be 10-hour work days and 6-day work weeks (oh adulting!)… but I’ll find a way to survive and stay sane.

On the plus side, lots of exciting things are going to be happening! My fiancé is moving in with me at the end of the month, and………. WE MIGHT GET ANOTHER DOG!

I’m really excited to continue re-reading Harry Potter (I am about halfway through The Order of the Phoenix and loving it so much!) However I find that with the later books, it does get a lot darker so I will taking breaks in between by reading Room, Emmy & Oliver, and Bossypants.

Since it’s going to be a busy month, I’m going to keep my goals simple 🙂

Reading

giphy2

Bullet Read 4 books!

Bullet Continue re-reading the Harry Potter series!

According to Goodreads, I am ahead of schedule to completing my goal of 60 books this year, so I am giving myself permission to kick back and relax this month 🙂

Writing

giphy3

Bullet Finish outlining my new WIP!

Bullet Be ready for CAMP NANO in July!

As some of you guys know, I’ve been using the Snowflake Method to plot my new WIP Shapeshifter. (I will definitely make a post about this method soon!) I am about halfway through outlining (the final step in the Snowflake), and hoping to finish in time to start writing for Camp Nano in July!

Blogging

giphy4

Bullet Write a variety of posts!

These past few months I’ve been doing a lot of book reviews and tags, but I really hope to be incorporate more variety into my posts for the upcoming month. Some things to watch out for: Answers from my Q&A, the Snowflake Method, and more DIYs!

Life

Bullet Survive work!

In all honesty, I really love my new job. It is crazy and hectic and leaves me feeling exhausted at the end of the day, but I love the feeling of making a difference and being a valued part of the team.

Bullet Get a dog!

We’ve always had Charles (our beautiful and beloved greyhound) but we’ve been wanting another dog for a long time. So… we’ve found one through the adoption agency and sent in our application. Fingers crossed!

Bullet Continue to exercise regularly!

Some of you may know that I take pole dance classes! It’s been difficult since I had a shoulder injury, took a break from pole, and coming back feeling like I’ve lost a lot of strength. However now I am getting back into the swing of things and starting to love pole again.

I’ve also learned from my injury and decided to incorporate a variety of different workouts, like running, pilates, yoga, and hiking 🙂

What are your plans for June? Any stress-busting tips? Do you have any pets (or want to get one?) Will you be doing Camp Nano?

  1. For June, my plans are mostly to save money, work and write. Those are basically my plans every month 😛 Any easy way for me to become less stressed is listening to podcasts as it’s easy to just tune out and focus on them.

Looks like you’re going to have a productive month, good luck 🙂

    1. Sounds like it’ll be a busy month for you! Adulting is hard, isn’t it?
I love listening to podcasts (or putting on a writing-related youtube video) in the background. It’s a great way to de-stress while learning about stuff 🙂
Thank you Rebecca! Wishing you a wonderful June as well!

      1. Absolutely haha.

Agreed! I’m starting to rely on podcast and audiobooks even more. They’re just such a great way to be focused but not completely focused if that makes sense? Lol

You’re welcome and thank you 🙂

      2. One of my favourite things about audiobooks is that you can do other stuff at the same time, so it is an efficient way to read when I don’t have too much time on my hands 🙂 However when my mind wanders, I end up having to rewind haha.

  2. Loved ROOM. Way more than I thought I would, and I already thought I’d enjoy it.

I’m still going to be editing by the time Camp NaNoWriMo comes around. I know the goals are a little more… customizable for camp. Does “finish editing (wherever I am) by end of July” work as camp goal?

    1. Yes Room was such a good movie wasn’t it!?

From my camp nano experience, you can set goals based on time (in minutes) or word count. However nothing keeps you from mentally setting an additional goal of finishing editing! Maybe you can use an estimated time or word count? I was in a similar situation this past April and gave myself a goal of 25K words as I finished my 2nd draft. Overall I definitely enjoyed Camp Nano because of the experience of being in a cabin where everyone encouraged each other to write everyday 🙂

  3. Ahh I can’t wait to see your new dog! I always wanted one but as much as my mom wanted one too, we just can’t take care of it now. I’m almost done with GoF and I’m going to start OotP soon 😀 Have a fun June!

    1. Hi Tasya! Yes dogs are such a big responsibility (and expensive!!), so it’s best to wait until you are absolutely sure that you’re ready!
We put in our application but not too sure if it will be accepted. Fingers crossed 🙂
Hope you enjoy the rest of GoF- I loved it so much. Let me know what you think about this one and OotP 🙂

  4. I’m mostly going to be working and reading in June, and taking a short trip out of town! Congrats on the new dog though (well, good luck too!). I actually just got a cat yesterday after two years of not having one, and he’s already turned my whole world upside down because I love having another pet in my life

Awesome that you just welcomed a new cat to your home. I used to have a cat- They can be such bundles of fun!
We’ll have to hear back from the adoption agency about our new dog- fingers crossed 🙂
      Wishing you a wonderful June!

  6. Seems like you have a very busy June ahead of you, but I’m sure it will be a great month as well Sophie! 🙂
Good luck with your reading goals (I’m sure you’ll be able to fly through the remaining HP books and stay ahead of your GR challenge too) and your WIP goals (I’m a little jealous of the drive you have when it comes to writing, please share some of it with me?!)
Also yay new dog! You’ll have to share some pictures when you do get him/her. There’s little I love more than cute animal pictures. 🙂
Great post, again good luck with all your goals and I hope you have an amazing June! 😀 ❤️

    1. Hello Beth!
Thank you for your sweet words ❤ I am keeping my expectations for June low because of everything that is going on, but we'll see how it goes!
I try my best when it comes to writing, but sometimes I spend the whole weekend sleeping haha (like this past weekend.) In general I do find that setting specific and achievable goals help me stay motivated 🙂
As for our potential new dog- We are not sure if the application will be accepted yet haha. Will keep you updated! How is your greyhound doing? 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful June as well ❤

      1. That’s all right, and oh hopefully by keeping your expectations low you’ll have an even better month than you think you will.
Ha, yeah I do that some (most) weekends. Sometimes you need to be lazy and there are other things that suffer because of it.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, and Tommy is doing fine, still as love-able but lazy as always. 🙂
        Thanks Sophie. ❤

      2. I think it is good to have lazy days once in a while. Our brains need time to relax and unwind after a long day or a long week! The hard part is to not feel guilty about it haha.
Awww Tommy sounds so adorable haha ❤ Greyhounds are such sweet and calm creatures aren't they? I love how they can just sleep the day away 🙂

      3. Definitely, but oh yeah that’s something I need to work on. I feel guilty whenever I leave blogging for longer than a few hours.
He definitely is, and yeah makes me wish I had a life where I could sleep the day away. 😀

      4. Haha I know what you mean about feeling guilty. There is just so much to do when it comes to blogging and we can spend forever on it. The hard part is that there is not enough time! I am totally slacking off on blog-hopping this week because work is crazy. Trying to give myself permission to not feel guilty haha 🙂

      5. Yeah sometimes I slack off when it comes to blogging, you need to every now and again because we’re only human and I feel like a certain amount of laziness/procrastination comes with the job you know? 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Yes I think so. We’re allowed to be lazy once in a while right? 😀

  7. Hi Sophie. I am so pleased you are back to doing pole again. I know how much you missed it.😊

A six day 60 hour week sounds no fun at all though. I am glad you enjoy your job because otherwise this would drive you crazy!

Stress busting? Well my suggestions would have been exercise and getting a dog so you are way ahead of me there. Also your writing engages your creativity and that would have been another suggestion. What is left? Massages perhaps?

You are the first to find out via WP but my plans for june include finalising arrangements for my first visit to Canada😊. I expect to be in Montreal in September for a few days.

    1. Hi Darren!
Thank you for your sweet comment!
My current job is pretty crazy but I love that the busyness of each day makes time go by much faster.
Haha I guess you are right- I always feel much more relaxed after a good workout routine, and blogging is therapeutic as well 🙂
That’s awesome that you are coming to Canada! Is this a work-related trip? Montreal is a great city though it’s been a while since I’ve last visited.

  8. Wow! Pole dancing? That’s amazing! You go girl. I will have fingers crossed that your application goes through for adoption. I took a session of yoga through park and rec and really liked it. I need to get back into that. It felt so weird to put so much weight on my hands but I had gotten steadier; now I’ll need to start over. I work out on the elliptical that got passed down to us from my parents and I’ve added in back weights. I hope to get another bike one day so I can get in a 6 mi ride at least once during the week.

    1. Hi Stefanie!
Pole dancing is one of my favourite exercises- it’s so fun and makes me forget that I am exercising haha 🙂
That’s great that you do elliptical and weights, and biking is great especially during the warmer months. I always look forward to doing yoga. Even it’s not a very intense workout, it is such a good way to relax after a long day 🙂
I am not too sure if the dog adoption application will go through but we’ll see!

  11. Oh I really hope work will be okay this month, I’m sending you loads of energy and courage to do it all! Sometimes adulting really is the worst haha. I hope you’ll get to adopt that second dog though, yay that’s so exciting 😀
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Emmy & Oliver, read that one a while ago, but I loved it so, so much 😀

    1. Aww thank you Marie for this sweet message. There is another work-related side project that I will have to do on my own time (which I discovered after I made this post haha). It’s giving me a lot of stress because it eats into my reading, writing and blogging time :/ If only there is more time in a day!
I can’t wait to read Emmy & Oliver! Thanks for your recommendation for this book ❤

      1. Oh no 😦 I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope everything will be okay, but I’m sure it will. Take your time with it all and blogging and all the books and writing will always be waiting for you ❤
