Celebrating 1 year of blogging // Announcing my first Q&A!

CELEBRATING 1 YEAR OF BLOGGING

Hello everyone!

What? Have I been blogging for A YEAR?! According to WordPress, I made my first blog post on May 24, 2017. Apparently.

giphy26

Yup. It’s official. Sophie’s Corner is one year old. First of all, I want to thank everyone for supporting me and reading what I have to say. I started out with one sad follower (me), and now I am proud to have over 500. I love the blogging community so much, because you guys always have kind and positive words to say. (Did I mention that this is my 152nd post!? And that I’ve written 92K words in blog posts – that’s like a NOVEL!)

This past year has been at times tough and stressful for me. As you guys may know, I moved across the country with my dog in January, leaving my friends and family behind. I started a new job, which is challenging because involved a different area of specialty and a new group of coworkers. Everything was new and overwhelming, but it was a relief to see that my blog friends and blogging community remained the same.

(No worries, I am all settled down now :’) )

What I am thankful for

#1: Never running out of books to read.

Before I found the book blogging community, there moments when I wanted to read, but didn’t know WHAT to read. Now I have the opposite problem- My TBR is always overflowing, and it is a matter of choosing what book to read next.

giphy27

#2: Finding books that I enjoy.

Thanks to book blogging, I’ve become pretty good at choosing books that I end up enjoying. Maybe it’s because I read book reviews more often, or because I get stellar recommendations from fellow book bloggers!

giphy28

#3: Being a voracious reader.

Before blogging, I didn’t read much at all, especially since university drained all my time and energy. 12 books a year would be an accomplishment. When I met the book community, I was amazed by how much everyone reads. This influenced me to read more, and I became fascinated by books again.

giphy30

#4: Finding my writing voice.

When I wrote my first few (quite embarrassing) blog posts on WordPress, I couldn’t quite get my voice and my personality just right. I was writing words, but I didn’t feel like they were an accurate reflection of myself. Now, 150 posts later, I think I am finally writing me.

giphy29

#5: Having the motivation to write.

Even though I’ve loved writing for a long time, it’s always been an on-and-off hobby for me. I would have bursts of inspiration, and then… nothing. Around the time I started blogging, I also began to take writing me seriously. I am so thankful that there are people who care about my WIP, whether I post snippets, aesthetics or just a blurb. It means a lot to me and it encourages me to continue going. I am also inspired by the other writers that I’ve met through blogging, who remind me to never give up on my dream.

giphy31

#6: Meeting a group of amazing people.

AKA. You guys! It always makes me happy to read your comments and feedback on my posts. I learned that blogging is more than just writing, it is about the interaction with the community as well. It is because of you all that I keep doing what I do. Thank you ❤

Q&A

I am actually a bit nervous since I’ve never done a Q&A before! However I’ve seen other bloggers do this for their blogiversary so I thought I’d give it a try. So… Any questions you’ve all been dying to ask me!? (Reading, writing, blogging, DIY, life!?) Ask away!! 🙂

  9. CONGRATULATIONS, SOPHIE! ❤ I am so, so happy that we've met thanks to blogging and that you've been at it for one year, you're doing amazing and I love your little corner of the internet and everything you put out there so much.
Alright, so bare with me, as I have a couple questions haha, I have to take that chance 😛
    1. What's one book you discovered thanks to blogging that you ended up LOVING to bits?
    2. What's one place you dream of visiting, fictional, then non-fictional?
    3. What's your editing process like? (Not trying at all to fish out for advice. oops). And your writing process? Does it change with every story you write?
    4. How do you organize your blogging life? Meaning, how do you handle working life and blogging? 😀

  11. Happy blogiversary!!! I can’t believe it’s been a year! You’ve accomplished so much!

    – What’s your all-time favorite TV-show, the one you always go back to and watch over and over again?
    – What’s the one book you never get tired of?
    – Who is the biggest influence in your life?

  12. Congratulations on your blogiversary and having written so many posts!! It’s great that blogging is helping you to read and write (your WIPs) more, because so far, it’s making me read and write less, just because the blog posts take so long…But I’ll eventually find my balance!

Hmm what are some of your favorite fictional villains? And why?

    1. Thank you Sieran! You are right that blogging takes a lot of time, which means less time for reading and writing. I think for me blogging influences me to read and write, and if I hadn’t started blogging, I might be doing other things with my time haha 🙂
Thank you for your question! I’ll have to think about that one 🙂

  15. Yay congrats Sophie!! 🎉🎉🎉 I’m surprised you’ve only been blogging for a year — your voice and writing style is really strong and personalized, so I’ve always thought you’ve been blogging for longer than that. 😊 I’m still trying to solidify my writing voice, but I think I’m finally getting there!

Anyways, here are some questions I would love to hear your answers to!

~ What is your opinion on adults reading YA? Do you feel like you’re able to pick apart stories deeper than most teens reading the same book, simply due to you having more life experiences & wisdom? What pulls you towards YA books?

~ How do you balance work life and reading? I’m always curious about other bookworms’ reading habits 😋

~What is a quote from a book that really resonated with you — and maybe one that you live by because it’s so meaningful to you?

I’m looking forward to your future Q&A post, Sophie! Congrats again on your one-year blogiversary!! 😆

    1. Thank you Zoie for your sweet and encouraging comment! I do think that you have a distinct voice and style in your blog posts. Keep it up and I’m sure you will get there! I am still learning as well.

  16. Happy blogaversary! 500 followers in one year is god going. Well done. I hope I can do as well as you. Not that amount of followers is the point of a book blog, but the more people I can reach with recommendations when I find an amazing book the better, right? Any tips for blogging? 😊

    1. Hello Ivy! Thank you for the sweet comment 🙂 I think getting new followers is something that we all can’t help but think about, because part of our reason for blogging is to engage with the community, right? I’ll have to think about what blogging tips I can provide. Will post my answer soon 🙂

  17. Sophie! Congrats on 500 followers and one year of blogging! Its awesome that I found a fellow pharmacist through here.

So my question is, how do you do it?! With work and life in general sometimes I feel like I dont have the time to read and blog, plus normal life stuff. Maybe I need some better time management!

Wow, congratulations! You have done so well to gain so many followers in just one year. I really enjoy reading your blog, it is so varied and entertaining.

    My question is:

Which book have you read that surprised you the most? Whether it turned out completely different to what you initially thought, changed your mind about a genre or went against your expectations of a particular author…

  20. Congratulations on reaching your one-year blogiversary Sophie! 🙂 ❤ That's such a great achievement and I hope there are many more years ahead of you on WordPress still. 😀
I'm definitely thankful that I'll never run out of books to read. Thanks to blogging I feel like for every book I move off my TBR list onto my read list, I've added five more that I need to get around to ASAP (I need a better way to manage my TBR list that's for sure).
My questions are below for you, I can't wait to see your Q&A answer post, and again congrats on the one-year blogiversary! 😀 ❤
+ What is the best thing you discovered through blogging?
+ If you could go back in time and offer the Sophie of one year ago just starting out blogging one piece of advice what would it be?
+ Do you have any exciting future plans for the next year; either in terms of your blog or your real life?
+ What has been the best book you've read since you started blogging, the book you'd get everyone in the world to read if you could?
+ What bookish world would you love to travel to?

    1. Thank you Beth ❤
Haha yes I feel the same way about my TBR and books in general. Now there are so many books that I want to read- it seems like there is not enough time in the day to read them all!
These are some great questions!! I am excited to answer them and I will post them soon 🙂

      1. That’s all right. 🙂 ❤
But better having too many books than too few right? I mean as much as I complain about having an unmanageable TBR list I never want to run out of books.
        Thanks Sophie. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Haha absolutely. I don’t think we should feel pressured about checking off each book on our TBR. That would be impossible (or at least very very difficult!) I’d rather think of the TBR as a list of suggestions for my next read, and it’s great to know that I’m never out of choices 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Definitely impossible, but it always gives us something to aim for doesn’t it? 🙂

  21. Happy bloggiversary!! And well done on all the posts- that’s amazing!! And I love the fact that you put your TBR as something to be thankful for, because I think too often we forget how awesome that is. And I love finding books that I enjoy from blogging 😀 And meeting people on the blogosphere has been amazing!! I’m going to ask what first motivated you to write? And what book world would you most like to live in? 😀

    1. Hello 🙂 Thank you for your sweet words ❤ I think I am among the very few bloggers who are thankful for their TBR – I remember too vividly how it feels to NOT have one!

If you could become best friends with any character, who would you choose? Would you rather be able to live inside your favourite book or have characters from all books except your favourite ones visit you in our world`?
