The Milestones Write Tag!

Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of MINI-REVIEW-3

Hello everyone!

I was actually supposed to make another blog post today – typed it up and had it all ready to go, BUT…. I decided to do this write tag instead ๐Ÿ™‚ As some of you guys know, I recently started drafting a new WIP using the Snowflake Method (which I’ll have to write about in a separate post) and I am SO excited and nervous since today is the first time I’m telling you guys about it!

Thank you to the amazing Kat Impossible @ Life and Other Disasters for coming up with this brilliant write tag, and for tagging me in it!

The Rules

  • Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to theย original post!ย (I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
  • Provide a short description of your WIP/story!
  • Donโ€™t use just one character for all answers if possible!ย (We want to get to know as many of your characters as possible)

The Gist

Shapeshifter is a low-fantasy / supernatural / YA novel:

The Rules of Shapeshifting:

Donโ€™t get caught.

Donโ€™t get attached.

Donโ€™t (ever) be yourself.

Seven is a Shapeshifter – a soul without a body or an identity. She can live your life for a day – but at a price.

Charlie Lu just transferred to a prestigious high school, striving for top marks and all-around perfection. But she stumbles through her classes and canโ€™t seem to make any new friends.

Feeling pressured, miserable, and desperate to take a break from life, Charlie signs a contract with Seven. But what if Charlie doesnโ€™t want her life back?

(This is a super rough blurb because I literally JUST wrote this now LOLโ€ฆ Forgive me!!)

The Questions

Can your Main Character (MC) remember their first day of school? Who was with them?

On the first day of grade one, Charlie puffed up her chest and let go of her mom’s hand at the edge of the school yard. She was nervous – she didn’t know any of the kids at this new school, but she wanted to show her mom that she was brave.

Which one of your characters would be the first to buy a house or property?

Cody. He may be fifteen but he is already doing his parents’ taxes. I mean, if it were up to his parents…

Does someone in your WIP own a pet?

No. Although some would compare Nihil to a cat of this sort:

What was your MCs first job and how did they feel about it?

Charlie worked at the Hershey’s chocolate factory (legitly.) Her reaction to all the oompa-loompa jokes:

Does your MC or another character want kids?

Seven would love to have a kid, though she doesn’t know the logistics. (Can two Shapeshifters mate and have a Shapeshifter kid? How does that work without any body parts whatsoever?)

Name a song that reminds one of your characters of heartbreak in their life!

Nihil had a heartbreak in the distant, distant past:

Has one of your characters lost someone close to them? How did they deal with it?

Charlie’s dad passed away when she was small. He was a skilled business man who was kind and always smiling. She misses him in the moments that he should be there, like when she won her first spelling bee, or when she graduated at the top of her class in junior high.

He was the one who taught her that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. Everyday, she wants to make him proud.

What is an achievement your MC is proud of?

Seven is a new Shapeshifter. She hasn’t had that many achievements. But there was that day when Seven was a beggar on the street, when she listened to an elderly Asian man talk about the Second Sino-Japanese war and the relatives he lost, when she felt his pain as if it were her own – that was when she felt (almost) human.

BONUS: Make an aesthetic for a special or memorable day in one of your characterโ€™s lives! (Itโ€™s up to you if you want to explain it or not!)

(Pssst…. I’m not sure what I am going to do with this novel yet since I haven’t started writing, but I mightย put it up on Wattpad.)

And! I tag these wonderful peeps:

Beth @ Reading Every Night

Haidan @ Haidan Writes

JW @ Storeys of Stories

Dani @ Perspective of a Writer

Sieran @ A Wild and Stormy Mind

Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books

Chauncey Rogers

And whoever is interested in this tag!

What is your current project about? What is your method for plotting a novel? Have you posted your work on Wattpad (or a similar site) and what was your experience with it? On a scale of 1 to 10, how much would you want to work at a chocolate factory? (10 out of 10 for me!)

  1. Uuuuuh, you’ll definitely have to let us know about the Snowflake Method! I don’t think I have heard about it before.
I am so happy you did this for your maybe new project! I know it’s always daunting to start a new story, but shapeshifters and people without bodies (which kind of reminds me of Every Day by David Levithan) sounds very intriguing already. And I would love to see you try wattpad as well, if you feel comfortable sharing it with the world that is ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Hi Kat ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay I’m glad that you find this WIP interesting so far!! Seeing your novel Arcadia on Wattpad inspires me to give it a try as well. It is a bit daunting to share my story with the world but let’s see how it goes haha ๐Ÿ™‚
I actually love using the snowflake method so far! It’s so systematic and efficient, and for once I think I am pacing my novel right. I’ll post about it when I’m done the whole process!
Thanks again for tagging me Kat โค This was a super fun one!

      1. I know! It’s nerve racking for me as well, but the support from everyone really keeps me going.
And I cannot wait to read up on that Snowflake system.

      2. It seems like a common thing among writers to be nervous about sharing our writing, which makes sense because it is such a personal thing to share right? Yes having support definitely helps!

      3. Oh absolutely! Writing is always a part of our self and innermost thoughts and ideas. That’s why it’s also completely normal to get defensive when someone doesn’t like your writing, even though the rational side of your brain knows that there is no way on Earth that everyone will like it ever haha

      4. Agreed ๐Ÿ™‚ When I show someone my writing, I feel like they can see into my mind (ahhhhhhhhh!!!) Hopefully wattpad will desensitize me? Lol.

      5. I hope so too. I really have only ever gotten positive comments on there, so I don’t think you have to worry.

  2. Seriously? Just 10/10? For our dream job? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
On a more serious note, now I am seriously intrigued by your WIP, I just have to read it!
Unfortunately my WIP has bogged down between work and family but that’s adult life…
I have got mixed feelings (ok, let’s be honest, I am disappointed) for Wattpad. O have published a story there and I have read what little I could discover beyond silly fanfiction, romantic YA of the stupid kind and bad Hollywood scenarios. The interaction is not what it should be, it’s just praise from friends and nothing really useful or constructive. On a brighter tone, Kat’s Arcadia seems promising and I need to find some extra time to read through it. Sorry for my little rant, please, don’t hesitate to publish on my account.

    1. LOL ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad that we feel the same way about chocolate factories!
That’s encouraging that you find my WIP interesting! Looks like I am on the right track ๐Ÿ™‚
Sometimes life happens especially when we are adults, but keep at it and never give up! I think a little bit a day goes a long way ๐Ÿ™‚
You are right that there are some silly stories on Wattpad. However I am interested in giving it a try since it will be a challenge for me to share my writing publicly ๐Ÿ™‚ I also have to read more of Kat’s Arcadia ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I might take a while to do this tag, but it looks fun!

My WIP is in a fantasy setting, where there are enchanters, spell casters, fairies, dragons, unicorns, etc. There are ordinary humans with no magic too, but we hardly ever talk about them in my story. Enchanters and spell casters look human, but they can use magic. The only real difference between the two, is that spell casters have fancy colored light (magical energy) coming out of their hands when they cast spells. Enchanters cast spells directly without fancy pretty lights. XD My story is set in a futuristic era that is about 90% LGBT-friendly. There is pretty much no more homophobi, biphobia, or aro/ acephobia. There may still be some implicit transphobia in some people, though, just like how North America still has some implicit racism. However, everybody is well educated about LGBT folks, and nobody has any trouble using a trans person’s pronouns, even if they are neo pronouns (like fae, faer, faers, faerself).

In their world, they have different types of jobs/ social positions. The main ones touched upon in this story, are healers, savers, and fighters. Fighters protect the country from outside threats or other enemies, and they get to ride on fairies. Fairies look like animals with wings, and can change size at will. Different fairies have different appearances, however. For instance, Theo’s fairy looks like a green insect or even dragonfly. Savers rescue people. Healers heal. In their society, fighters are seen as the most prestigious, and savers and healers are less prestigious. (Which may go to show you what this society values…And that fighters are the only class of people who get to have fairies.) This kind of social hierarchy causes some tension in the story.

Lots of weird fantasy and action-adventure stuff, complete with time travel and interdimensional travel, happen in this story, lol. It’s mega fun to write.

LOL I don’t plot my novels anymore, though I did when I was much younger. For me, plotting just encourages me to procrastinate on actually writing the story, haha. Pantsing is a lot better for me. I would have a vague goal in mind for the current or next scene I’m writing, and then I write it. The vague goal could be anything, like: “T and K travel to dimension X and fight it out.” or “R and K try to sort out their relationship problems and of course fail.” I may have guesses as to how the story might end, or what kinds of climax scenes will happen, but aside from nebulous things like that, there is no planning. If I try to plan, there will be no writing, lol.

On Wattpad, I started posting this “collection of short stories/ episodes” of a romance between a trans guy and a cis guy. The stories range from both before and after their marriage. Honestly I only posted it so that it would be more convenient to share the stories with my best friend, haha. So she and I got to chat about them. I read the poems she posted on Wattpad too. As for interactions with strangers, I read almost exclusively Pokemon fiction, especially on my favorite ships: Gladion and Hau from Pokemon Sun and Moon, Red and Blue (the gay pair) from Pokemon Origins, and Gold and Silver from Pokemon Gold and Silver! I REALLY dig these ships, so. Occasionally I will make some small comment or another, but yeah, there isn’t anything substantial in our interactions; it’s all very unserious and just fun, lol.

I’m afraid I’ll have to say a 1/ 10 for working in a chocolate factory…I already eat enough chocolate as an ordinary citizen, so I don’t need the extra temptation. XD Also, the thought of working at a factory sounds restricting and even a bit claustrophobic…Or is that just me?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hi Sieran ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds like you’ve done lots of world building for your story, which is great! And that’s awesome that your novel is set in a LGBT friendly setting.

Pantsing seems like fun, and if it works for you, run with it! I’ve always been a plantser myself but trying the planter approach this time ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing your experience with Wattpad- it’s helpful to know what to expect. I am excited but nervous to share my writing publicly but we’ll see how it goes! I am actually a big pokemon fan though I haven’t read any fan fiction (I played all the games though!)

Haha I get it about working in a factory…… though how can you dislike chocolate?? D:

      Liked by 1 person

      1. LOLLL honestly there’s a lot of wish fulfillment there, though their world can’t be too ideal or the story would be too easy. I also fantasize about being able to shapeshift my body like these magic casting trans people, and not have to rely on surgery and hormones, lol, since there are barriers like long waitlist times, costs for things not covered by insurance, possible side-effects of hormones, etc.

Haha I do like chocolate, but I have it way too often already, so I need to resist it. I’ve gained so much weight recently (never been this heavy before), and hopefully this is just because of the testosterone increasing my muscle mass and bone density, lol. I’ve also been treating myself to a lot of Lindt chocolate lately. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Woo hoo fellow Pokรฉmon fan!! *Fanboy squeals*. My favorite Pokemon is Gengar, favorite type is ghost, second fav type is ice. How about you? Also, do you have any character crushes in Pokรฉmon? I have such a crush on Gladion, and have a semi-crush on Morty the ghost gym leader, lol.

Looking forward to hearing you talk about the snowflake method. ๐Ÿ˜

        Liked by 1 person

      2. That’s what stories are for, right? We live our lives through the characters we read about or write about ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha that’s true. I probably love chocolate too much for my own good, so I try to not keep any around the house. I think it makes sense that you would gain weight on testosterone because it increases muscle production. Males tend to be heavier than females for this reason, right? It’s all right as long as you feel healthy.

Gengar is a super strong pokemon in the games from what I remember! My favourite is Rapidash haha, though my favourite pokemon type is water or ice. I am not too familiar with Gladion or any of the newer characters however I do remember Morty! I had the hugest crush on Ash when I was small (I know, he’s such a dork hahahaha) ๐Ÿ™‚

I had lots of fun with the snowflake method- will definitely make a post about it later ๐Ÿ™‚

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Gengar’s high speed and uber high special attack, combined with Shadow Ball make it a formidable opponent for many Pokemon. ๐Ÿ˜€

Aw Rapidash and Ponyta might be my favorite fire Pokemon. ^^

LOL I recall one girl from the anime who had a crush on Ash, because he’s very kind to his Pokemon. He is generally very nice to his Poke-friends. ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking forward to that Snowflake post!

I’m taking so long with my upcoming post, lol. And it’s too long that I will have to divide it up into at least two separate posts, lol. It’s on the fear of emotional closeness in relationships, specifically friendships.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Haha yes Gengar was one of the toughest pokemon to beat I think ๐Ÿ™‚
I enjoy reading about people and relationships, so I am looking forward to your next posts!

I loved your answers here and I especially LOVE that aesthetic, so pretty! Can’t wait to hear more about the story. Also, yes, please talk about the snowflake method, I am very curious about that haha ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Aw thank you Marie โค It means a lot to me that you find this new WIP interesting! I don't think I'll ever be quite ready to share my writing on Wattpad, but sometimes you just have to dive into the deep end of the pool right? ๐Ÿ˜€ In any case it will be a fun challenge!
I love the snowflake method so far since it is a more structured approach to plotting (compared to what I've done before!) and I find that it makes the process go by much faster ๐Ÿ™‚ I'll write more about it when I finish plotting. Thank you for your sweet comment Marie โค

  5. Oh thanks so much for the tag Sophie, and I LOVED reading your answers for this one. Your new WIP sounds brilliant, if you do post it on Wattpad that would be incredible because I’d love to read more, but even if you just post a few snippets on your blog I’ll be happy to learn even a little more about your characters and your story (also I hope the snowflake writing method is going well for you too).
The aesthetic is gorgeous, I love all the blue, and oh I wish I had a pet like Salem, he was my favourite character in Sabrina the Teenage Witch! ๐Ÿ˜€

I I thought that Wattpad would be an interesting challenge for me since I haven't done anything like it before ๐Ÿ™‚ The snowflake method is going well. I love that it is a more focused approach to plotting and actually makes it go faster (compared to my previous method which was just writing down random ideas haha ๐Ÿ™‚ )
Glad that you like the aesthetic! I watched Sabrina a long long time ago, which inspired me to get my first cat ๐Ÿ™‚

Thatโ€™s good to hear as well, Iโ€™m definitely keeping the snowflake method in mind for possible future WIPs of mine.

And your aesthetic is gorgeous! Its quite brave to share your work on Wattpad but I would be game to read it if you did decide to share! โค๏ธ And that for the tag! This looks like fun!

Haha I am definitely nervous about sharing something on Wattpad, but I think I'll never feel 100% ready for it, you know? So I think I might as well take the leap now ๐Ÿ™‚
Thank you Dani โค Hope that you'll get a chance to do this tag. I definitely had fun with it!

  7. Ooh exciting new story! This sounds like a really cool plot, which I can definitely see would take some planning to write in all its glory. You got this! 2. Sometimes with writing, I feel like I have to go back and rewrite certain parts as well. The important thing is that we keep going, right? Hope your shawl will turn out well ๐Ÿ™‚ I haven’t watched Stranger Things though I’ve heard good things about it so far!
