Hello everyone!
I was actually supposed to make another blog post today – typed it up and had it all ready to go, BUT…. I decided to do this write tag instead 🙂 As some of you guys know, I recently started drafting a new WIP using the Snowflake Method (which I’ll have to write about in a separate post) and I am SO excited and nervous since today is the first time I’m telling you guys about it!
Thank you to the amazing Kat Impossible @ Life and Other Disasters for coming up with this brilliant write tag, and for tagging me in it!
The Rules
- Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to the original post! (I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
- Provide a short description of your WIP/story!
- Don’t use just one character for all answers if possible! (We want to get to know as many of your characters as possible)
The Gist
Shapeshifter is a low-fantasy / supernatural / YA novel:
The Rules of Shapeshifting:
Don’t get caught.
Don’t get attached.
Don’t (ever) be yourself.
Seven is a Shapeshifter – a soul without a body or an identity. She can live your life for a day – but at a price.
Charlie Lu just transferred to a prestigious high school, striving for top marks and all-around perfection. But she stumbles through her classes and can’t seem to make any new friends.
Feeling pressured, miserable, and desperate to take a break from life, Charlie signs a contract with Seven. But what if Charlie doesn’t want her life back?
(This is a super rough blurb because I literally JUST wrote this now LOL… Forgive me!!)
The Questions
Can your Main Character (MC) remember their first day of school? Who was with them?
On the first day of grade one, Charlie puffed up her chest and let go of her mom’s hand at the edge of the school yard. She was nervous – she didn’t know any of the kids at this new school, but she wanted to show her mom that she was brave.
Which one of your characters would be the first to buy a house or property?
Cody. He may be fifteen but he is already doing his parents’ taxes. I mean, if it were up to his parents…
Does someone in your WIP own a pet?
No. Although some would compare Nihil to a cat of this sort:
What was your MCs first job and how did they feel about it?
Charlie worked at the Hershey’s chocolate factory (legitly.) Her reaction to all the oompa-loompa jokes:
Does your MC or another character want kids?
Seven would love to have a kid, though she doesn’t know the logistics. (Can two Shapeshifters mate and have a Shapeshifter kid? How does that work without any body parts whatsoever?)
Name a song that reminds one of your characters of heartbreak in their life!
Nihil had a heartbreak in the distant, distant past:
Has one of your characters lost someone close to them? How did they deal with it?
Charlie’s dad passed away when she was small. He was a skilled business man who was kind and always smiling. She misses him in the moments that he should be there, like when she won her first spelling bee, or when she graduated at the top of her class in junior high.
He was the one who taught her that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. Everyday, she wants to make him proud.
What is an achievement your MC is proud of?
Seven is a new Shapeshifter. She hasn’t had that many achievements. But there was that day when Seven was a beggar on the street, when she listened to an elderly Asian man talk about the Second Sino-Japanese war and the relatives he lost, when she felt his pain as if it were her own – that was when she felt (almost) human.
BONUS: Make an aesthetic for a special or memorable day in one of your character’s lives! (It’s up to you if you want to explain it or not!)
(Pssst…. I’m not sure what I am going to do with this novel yet since I haven’t started writing, but I might put it up on Wattpad.)
And! I tag these wonderful peeps:
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer
Sieran @ A Wild and Stormy Mind
Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books
And whoever is interested in this tag!
