Hello everyone!
I was tagged by Kat Impossible @ Life and Other Disasters and Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books! This seems like such a fun tag! However, to be honest I am a bit nervous and intimidated, because how am I supposed to talk about my WIP in a series of GIFs!? However, I suppose if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a GIF should be worth, like, a million, right? Anyway, let’s give this a try and see how it goes 🙂
Thank you to Michelle @ The Writing Hufflepuff for creating this tag!
(Pssst….. I’ll also be sharing a snippet of my WIP at the end of this post.)
The Rules
💛 Thank the person who tagged you
💛 Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back to this post so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
💛 Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you
Children of the Sun (My WIP)
Since the discovery of DNA in the 1950s, there has been tremendous interest in the potential of modifying the human genome. Now, in the year 2018, genetic modification of human embryos for medically necessary purposes is endorsed by the World Health Organization.
Meanwhile, there are rumours of a new genetic disease, one that can give rise to spontaneous combustion and allow its host to breathe underwater. Those that carry these mutations, Deviants, must be medicated and controlled. It is the job of the Deviant Investigation Unit to track these people down.
Fifteen-year-old Meredith doesn’t have a last name or a passport. The only family she knows is Rio, Edene, and the other detectives in the Unit. When Edene, her best friend and guardian disappears, Meredith investigates the unexplained deaths of three young women, and uncovers her own past and the darkest secret in the history of genetic modification.
The Questions
Sum up your WIP in 4 gifs!
Time to introduce your main characters!
Meredith

Rio

Edene

Zenith

Carmen

How would your main character react in a crisis?

If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?

And if you were to meet your antagonist?

Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?
There is only a teeny tiny element of romance in my WIP. It might go something like this:
How do other characters feel about this ship?
How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?

I tag these awesome peeps:
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer
And whoever wants to give this tag a try!
A Snippet!
I’ve been talking about Children of the Sun for a long, long time but I don’t think I’ve ever shared a snippet. It is hard because at any given time, I either love it to bits… or want to shred it all and start over. Anyway 🙂
Meredith opens the door to an empty apartment. When she turns on the light, there is a typed note on the kitchen counter. Only Edene would type up her notes instead of leaving a simple post-it, Meredith thinks with a grin.
“Hey sunshine,
I’ll be MIA for a while, some emergency family stuff back in Australia. Will be unplugging my phone and wifi for a bit. No worries, I’m good! Be back soon.
Cheers,
Edene.”
Meredith’s smile disappears. Edene doesn’t talk about her family much. There was one time when they were sitting on the living room couch, chatting late into the night, Edene on her fourth glass of wine (Meredith drank pomegranate juice because she was, and still is, underage), when the older woman mentioned her mom and dad in Australia. To Meredith, hearing about other people’s families is a curious thing. She’d ask a lot of questions, trying to distill how it feels like to have a family. Yet she would be left unsatisfied, because you will never know what it is like to have a family unless you have one of your own.
Tell me about your WIP! Are you doing Camp Nano or Nanowrimo this year? What are your writing goals?
