My WIP in GIFs Tag! (+ a snippet!)

Copy of Copy of Copy of MINI-REVIEW-3

Hello everyone!

I was tagged by Kat Impossible @ Life and Other Disasters and Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books! This seems like such a fun tag! However, to be honest I am a bit nervous and intimidated, because how am I supposed to talk about my WIP in a series of GIFs!? However, I suppose if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a GIF should be worth, like, a million, right? Anyway, let’s give this a try and see how it goes πŸ™‚

Thank you to Michelle @ The Writing Hufflepuff for creating this tag!

(Pssst….. I’ll also be sharing a snippet of my WIP at the end of this post.)

The Rules

πŸ’›Β Thank the person who tagged you
πŸ’›Β Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back toΒ this postΒ so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
πŸ’›Β Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you

Children of the Sun (My WIP)

Since the discovery of DNA in the 1950s, there has been tremendous interest in the potential of modifying the human genome. Now, in the year 2018, genetic modification of human embryos for medically necessary purposes is endorsed by the World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, there are rumours of a new genetic disease, one that can give rise to spontaneous combustion and allow its host to breathe underwater. Those that carry these mutations, Deviants, must be medicated and controlled. It is the job of the Deviant Investigation Unit to track these people down.

Fifteen-year-old Meredith doesn’t have a last name or a passport. The only family she knows is Rio, Edene, and the other detectives in the Unit. When Edene, her best friend and guardian disappears, Meredith investigates the unexplained deaths of three young women, and uncovers her own past and the darkest secret in the history of genetic modification.

The Questions

Sum up your WIP in 4 gifs!

giphy17

giphy18

giphy19

giphy20

Time to introduce your main characters!

Meredith

giphy25

If not for Rio and Edene, Meredith would just stay home and read all day.

Rio

giphy24

Rio’s famous disappearing act.

Edene

giphy23

On the other hand, Edene is organized and completely serious about everything.

Zenith

giphy22

Zenith is a sensitive guy at heart, despite who he tries to be.

Carmen

giphy21

Carmen loves her son, though she is still trying to figure out his black hair and new nose ring.

How would your main character react in a crisis?

giphy27

Meredith would appear calm on the outside but freak out on the inside.

If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?

giphy29

“Hey!!!!!! I know you guys!! In fact, I created you guys!! You know, kind of like, giving birth, without actually uh, giving birth?” “Uh………. no.” Awkward silence.

And if you were to meet your antagonist?

giphy30

What can I say? I’m a fan πŸ™‚

Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?

There is only a teeny tiny element of romance in my WIP. It might go something like this:

giphy31

How do other characters feel about this ship?

giphy32

How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?

giphy33

Shocked by the plot twists

giphy34

Can’t stop reading

giphy36

Fall in love with the characters

giphy35

And be reduced to tears in the end. (Hahaha just kidding! It won’t be that sad….. or will it!?)

I tag these awesome peeps:

Beth @ Reading Every Night

Hainan @ Haidan Writes

JW @ Storeys of Stories

Dani @ Perspective of a Writer

Melissa @ Bookish Wanderer

And whoever wants to give this tag a try!

A Snippet!

I’ve been talking about Children of the Sun for a long, long time but I don’t think I’ve ever shared a snippet. It is hard because at any given time, I either love it to bits… or want to shred it all and start over. Anyway πŸ™‚

Meredith opens the door to an empty apartment. When she turns on the light, there is a typed note on the kitchen counter. Only Edene would type up her notes instead of leaving a simple post-it, Meredith thinks with a grin.

β€œHey sunshine,

I’ll be MIA for a while, some emergency family stuff back in Australia. Will be unplugging my phone and wifi for a bit. No worries, I’m good! Be back soon.

Cheers,

Edene.”

Meredith’s smile disappears. Edene doesn’t talk about her family much. There was one time when they were sitting on the living room couch, chatting late into the night, Edene on her fourth glass of wine (Meredith drank pomegranate juice because she was, and still is, underage), when the older woman mentioned her mom and dad in Australia. To Meredith, hearing about other people’s families is a curious thing. She’d ask a lot of questions, trying to distill how it feels like to have a family. Yet she would be left unsatisfied, because you will never know what it is like to have a family unless you have one of your own.

Tell me about your WIP! Are you doing Camp Nano or Nanowrimo this year? What are your writing goals?

      Hello Marie ❀
Thank you for tagging me! This was a super fun tag to do, though I was nervous about answering in gifs in the beginning haha πŸ™‚
I liked that you shared a snippet with your tag so I thought that I would do it too. Glad that you enjoyed it! I am still a bit conflicted about my WIP. Now that I am almost done writing, I feel like I must re-write the first half haha :')

You did amazing on the tag, Sophie!! I really loved your choice of gifs and totally got that murder mystery/mad scientist/government conspiracy vibe as well as some really cool characters. Bold move to actually tell your characters that you created them hahaha I think mine might kill me if they ever found out who I was haha
Also, that was such a lovely snippet to share. Thanks for that!

Oh thanks so much for the tag Sophie. πŸ™‚ I have a few writer related tags to get around to so I’ll definitely be posting them soon, once I re-introduce everyone to my WIP because it’s changed so much now (I’ve actually gone off on another tangent today and decided on a completely new route for one of my main characters. Fun times).
I love all these gifs, especially the owl one because I relate to that so hard, and as a result definitely relate to Meredith’s character (but I freak out on the outside too).
Also I love your snippet, I’m definitely both curious about your WIP and desperate for more info. πŸ™‚
Great post, and again thanks for the tag. πŸ˜€ ❀

      Hi Beth ❀
Haha it is fun when characters decide to do stuff on their own isn't it? Glad to hear that you have some other writing tags lined up! Looking forward to your posts, whichever ones you choose to do! πŸ™‚
Thank you! Haha I am with you and Meredith on that one. People often say "oh but you look so calm all the time" when I am not calm at all on the inside πŸ™‚
Glad that you like the snippet! Happy writing ❀

It really is fun, and that’s good to hear because I’m very likely to post them one after the other. It’ll be a week of writing related posts on my blog or something! πŸ˜€
That’s all right, and yeah I’ve perfected the art of panicking on the inside and outside. I’m a multi-tasker that way. πŸ™‚
        Thanks Sophie. πŸ™‚ ❀

Awwww THANK YOU FOR TAGGING ME! I think this is a writing tag I can do and my writing partner can’t protest I’ll be sharing too much!! YAY!

I LOVED the gifs you chose! I feel like you must have spent hours finding them all… and I want to be shocked, read all night and cry at the end of your book too!! ❀ The snippet is great! I love how there is this different age thing going on… I love relationships like that.

      Hi Dani ❀
Haha you're welcome! I had so much fun doing this tag and I hope that you will too πŸ™‚ Looking forward to hearing more about your WIP!
Thank you! To be honest it didn't take that long at all to find the gifs (or at least it didn't feel that long haha!) Glad that you liked the snippet. I wanted to focus on non-romantic relationships in this story πŸ™‚

SOPHIE YOUR BLURB IS SO GOOD??? IT SOUNDS SO PROFESSIONAL LIKE WOW I’M IN AWE. Your title is also so so good? I mean Children of the Sun??? Mine is literally called ‘unnamed contemporary’ and here you are with your 10/10 title and blurb?? I didn’t even need the rest of this post to convince me I need to read your WIP asap, but the gifs definitely made me even more excited
