April Goals and TBR!

Copy of Copy of Copy of MINI-REVIEW

Hello everyone!

Happy April! And happy (belated) Easter to those who celebrate it!

giphy1

This Easter, I was blessed with a long weekend (4 days!) My family flew across the country to visit me in Vancouver. We did a few short hikes and ate lots of great food πŸ™‚

As for my goals this month: Truthfully I am feeling a bit burnt out from March (work! taxes! general adult life!) Yes, adulting* really takes a toll out of you.

giphy

*When does adulting really end? At what point are we actually an adult? Thirty? Forty? Fifty!? I think at some point I’ll just have to stop complaining about “adulting” and actually be an adult hahaha πŸ˜›

Anyway, so the point that I am getting to here is that I will just take it easy for April πŸ™‚

I also want to announce the winner of my first ever giveaway!Β Congratulations to Tiana @ The Book Raven!Β Thank you to everyone who has participated!

Reading

giphy3

BulletΒ Read 5 books!

BulletΒ Read some of the books that I already own, including Room and The Book Thief, both of which I’ve had on my bookshelf for quite a while.

BulletΒ Dabble in some classic literature, such as The Book Thief and The Bell Jar.

Writing

giphy4

My WIP is going, well………. incredibly slowly. Comparing it to this sloth here would be an understatement:

giphy2

Truth be told, I have never spent so long on a draft in my life. Sci-fi is a genre that doesn’t come naturally to me. For the first half of the novel, I often doubted the direction my novel is going, or whether it is any good at all. There was one point when I seriously considered scrapping the entire thing and starting over.

Thankfully I am over that hump now. I am about halfway through and feeling more inspired. Here are my writing goals this month:

BulletΒ Write a bit each day.Β I started doing this a few months back, and it is working well so far! Though I skip writing on a few incredibly busy days, overall I am able to make it a daily habit.

BulletΒ Finish my WIP by the end of the month.Β I estimate that I have about 25K words left to go. This means around 860 words per day, which *should* be totally doable based on how fast I know I can write. However considering that my first 32K happened over 4 months, this could be an ambitious goal :’)

Blogging & Media

giphy5

BulletΒ Post 2 times per week. Blog hop 2 times per week. This is working out well so far!

BulletΒ Revamp my blog.Β I am hoping to create the long-awaited review index and straighten up my menu a bit.

BulletΒ Get involved on Twitter, Instagram and Goodreads. This is a HUGE goal which won’t get done over the course of one month! I’ll start by posting reviews on Goodreads in addition to this blog.

Life

giphy6

BulletΒ Continue living sustainably, such as using reusable containers, reusable bags, and cloth napkins.

BulletΒ Incorporate a variety of exercises into my workout routine. Because of a shoulder injury, I am taking a break from pole fitness for now. (This was a difficult decision for me to make because of how much I love pole!) For the month of April, I want to stay fit by doing a variety of exercises, such as running, gym classes, pilates and even swimming.

Any books on your TBR for April? What are your goals?

When does adulting end? (Does it ever end!?) What do you do when you are feeling tired or burnt out? Which social media platform(s) are you involved in, and which do you enjoy the most? What exercises do you enjoy? (Fitness tips are welcome :D)

  1. Great post! I haven’t read any of the books on your TBR. I do want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone. How are you finding it?
Lots of good questions in the end there. Ill try and answer a few.
I don’t think adulting ever ends. You just enter different parts of it. The only way is to pick up a middle grade book and escape for a few hours.
When I’m tired I tend to read, bing watch Netflix or something which takes me away from the world. Finding motivation to do anything when your tired is very difficult. Hanging out with friends could be good too.
I love Instagram. That’s my platform.
I’m not very flexible but I like yoga and Pilates. But also harder stuff. I tend to use two apps because I can’t be bothered to go to the gym. I use Yoga Studio (no membership but a lot of different sessions at different lengths, it’s great) and skimble (I have membership but you don’t need it).

    2. Hello Ivy!
I enjoy the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series so far. The characters and the world building are amazing, but I am not too used the the author’s writing style. Also there is an element of instalove especially in the first book that I am not a big fan of. Overall if you enjoy fantasy series I think you will like this one πŸ™‚
Haha yes I can imagine that adulting never really ends. Books are a great escape, and it’s the reason why I love reading.
I’ll have to look into Skimble! I’ve been doing Cassie’s workouts (on blogilates youtube channel) but I want to try something different. Thanks for the recommendation πŸ™‚

      1. Hi Sophie
Yeah I’ve heard these things. It’s a bit Twilight-y with the instalove which I’m not a big fan of either. But I’ve hear of Laini Taylor’s writing style which is what makes me incline to read at least the first book.
I’ve heard of Cassie’s but never tried them. I’ll check it out. Your welcome.

      2. There are many bloggers who I respect that really love this series, so I think it is worth a try to see whether it is for you πŸ™‚
Cassie brings a lot of energy to her workouts, and they are quite intense! So far none of the ab exercises I’ve done are as crazy as the ones she does in her videos πŸ™‚

I’ll check her out, sounds interesting.

  2. Ugh I do not know when adulting ends or actually start, I just wish we could be children again haha, how fun would that be. Responsibilities really suck – I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling a bit burnt out by it all, I hope the feeling will pass soon ❀ ❀
You have such a fantastic TBR for April, I can't wait to hear what you think of Leah, can't wait to read that one πŸ™‚
Best of luck for all of your goals, wishing you all the best! ❀ ❀

    1. Hello Marie ❀
Haha yes, I can imagine that adulting never really ends, and just when we think we get the hang of something, there will be another new responsibility to take on. Yes I really miss being a kid, when the biggest worry was getting homework done hahaha :')
Thank you for your sweet words! This week is looking better already πŸ™‚ Wishing you a wonderful April as well ❀

      1. Oh yes, I miss that haha, we should be able to be kids again, like… at least once a month haha πŸ™‚

      2. Haha definitely! I guess reading is a way of going back to being children? It’s one of the reasons why I love YA novels! And I might just reread HP one of these days πŸ™‚

    1. Hello Kristin!
So far I am hearing great things about The Book Thief and Room. That’s great to hear that you like these books as well. I am halfway through The Book Thief now and loving it very much πŸ™‚
Let’s both try and get our reviews on Goodreads then! Since we’ve already written them (which is the hardest part) we might as well post them at another place, right?

  5. That’s a great set of goals Sophie! I can’t wait for you to become more active in goodreads and instagram.
I am afraid I have some bad news for you also, adulting never really ends. As life goes on more and more responsibilites accumulate and willing or not (not that it matters) you become more and more adult. Having children s the ultimate adulting according to many but thankfully my daughter thinks I am too immature to be a proper adult (and she hates dad jokes).
I am glad you had a great Easter with family, it’s a family affair too here but this year the Eastern Orthodox church celebrates Easter one week later. We still get a long weekend and lots of food, culminating on the traditional spit roast lamb on Easter Sunday.

    1. Hello Michael!
Hahahaha I think I saw it coming that adulting never really ends. I can imagine that with each stage of life there is additional responsibilities and challenges. I guess this keeps life interesting, right? Thanks for the words of wisdom πŸ™‚ Wishing you a wonderful Easter this coming weekend! Sounds like the food will be delicious!

  8. Book thief is great. Bell Jar is a challenging read, but then Plath’s work is often a little uncomfortable for anyone who has experienced depression.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury – I know how much you enjoyed pole.

Thank you! I am going to do some physio and massage therapy which will hopefully help with the injury.

    1. Hello Kat!
I am at the last 100 pages of The Book Thief. I love it so much so far- the characters are all so lovable. I think I foresee a sad ending coming so I am a bit nervous to read on haha πŸ™‚
Same here! I think Leah is released later on this month (the 24th?) so I am waiting as well πŸ™‚

      1. It is sad and hopeful both in the end, so don’t be afraid. There are going to be tears, but humans have an immense capacity for dealing with the most terrible things. Liesel is strong.
