Hello everyone!
Hope you guys had a great month!
It’s been crazy for me: new city, new apartment, new job, new coworkers, new friends, new pole studio. Everything around me is so, SO different.
But you know what?
In the midst of all of that…….. You guys stayed the same.
And I owe you all a BIG thank you 🙂
Anyway! Since this is the end of the month, it is now the time to think back and try to remember what I did for the last 4 weeks haha *goldfish memory moment* :’)
- Read 9 books!?! (That’s a RECORD for me!!)
- Wrote everyday (sometimes just one sentence… literally)
- Joined a pole studio (YAY!)
- Dabbled in DIY (photos coming up!)
- ++ Sustainability (public transit! reusable shopping bags and containers! cloth napkins!)
- Visited Salt Spring Island which was a super fun trip!! (photos coming up!)
This was an AMAZING reading month for me. First of all, I can’t believe that I read NINE books, which is unprecedented for me (usually I am sitting around the 5-6 books mark.) Of course, two are graphic novels and one is a short story which sped things along 😛
Secondly, there were many books that I enjoyed, that I couldn’t wait to read the next page of, that made me excited for my commute just to be able to read more.
Dear Martin is a breath-taking and poignant novel about gun violence and racism. I loved how concise and fast-paced this book was, and how it explored multiple point of views on this issue. Check out my review here.(★★★★.5/5)
Warcross BLEW ME AWAY! WHAT HAPPENED IN THE END!??!? Now I can’t wait for a year to pass so I can get my hands on the second book :’) Review coming up! (★★★★/5)
Talking as Fast as I Can is a super fun read from the actress who played Lorelai in Gilmore Girls. I loved the humorous and quirky voice of the writer, who made me laugh out loud. However, I didn’t watch Gilmore Girls or Parenthood, and I feel that I would’ve appreciated this book so much more if I did. (★★★/5)
The Problem with Forever is a slower-paced YA contemporary about letting go of the past and moving on. I loved the main character’s development, and it was inspiring to see her celebrating small achievements, like being able to speak a few words on her first day of school. However, the pacing was too slow for me, and everyone… talked… like… this… (I don’t mind the occasional ellipses but it is a pet peeve of mine when it is over-used!) (★★★/5)
Artemis is an action-packed science fiction about life on the moon. I am in LOVE with the world building and research that is behind this novel, and how REAL it all seems. And the MC is super badass! Check out my review here.(★★★.5/5)
We Were Liars is another book that took me completely by surprise at the end. I loved the writing style, which was smooth and powerful. Although I felt the beginning and middle were slow, I was captivated by the ending. (★★★/5)
Adulthood is a Myth and Big Mushy Happy Lump are the first two books in a collection of autobiographic graphic novels called Sarah’s Scribbles. Sarah is a introvert, bookworm, and a bit of an awkward penguin. Her comic strips (which started off as a webcomic series) are so relatable and humorous. (★★★★/5)
Remember Brokeback Mountain?! (The Oscar-winning movie about two gay guys in the mountains!?) I’ve always loved this movie, but it is the first time that I read the short story on which the movie was based. Annie Proulx’s writing is breath-taking and this short story is every bit as heart-breaking as the movie adaptation. I love this so much. (★★★★★/5)
