2017 Year in Book Review Tag

2017-in-2.png

Hello everyone!

Wow, can you believe it!? It is almost the end of 2017 already! Time flies!

Today I will be doing a book tag that I saw Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books post. It looks like the perfect way to wrap up 2017, so I couldn’t resist doing it myself.

1. First ever female Doctor Who: Favorite Female Protagonist

29939230This was SUCH a difficult decision since there are a handful of female protagonists that I admire. However, Lila from the Shades of Magic Series stole my heart. I love how she is intelligent, conniving, and often saves the day.

2. GCC Cuts Ties with Qatar: An author you cut ties with

6567017

I may have the unpopular opinion here, however, I am not a fan of David Levithan‘s writing style. He creates whimsical characters and has a humorous style of writing. On the other hand, I feel that this gets in the way of telling a good story.

3. La La Land Oscar Mix-Up: A book that surprised you

9305362I can’t talk about this book enough!! The Captive Prince series by C.S. Pacat is one of my favourite fantasy series this year. I loved the heartfelt romance between Damen and Laurent.

4. Hurricanes and Earthquakes: A book that rocked your world

23395680Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff blew me away.

5. Louvre Abu Dhabi: Favorite book cover art

33385229I love the cover of They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. I think it kind of speaks for itself 🙂

6. Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi sells for $450m: A TAKE-MY-MONEY

18336972

18336965Anything that Jasmine Warga will ever write. I don’t even have to look at the title or the description – I am SOLD.

7. Total Eclipse: A sequel that overshadows the first book

320756621I remembered liking This Savage Song though I don’t remember much about it (that happens to me a lot – goldfish memory). HOWEVER I really love Kate and August in Our Dark Duet and THAT ENDING.

8. Muslim ban: Favorite diverse read.

30653853The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli is about a fat girl named Molly, who has two Moms and a twin sister who is gay and dating a pansexual girl, and was born via sperm donation. Can you get more diverse than this!?

9. Italy doesn’t qualify for World Cup: Most disappointing book.

32333174I think it was a while back when EVERYONE seemed to be talking about this book, which made me SO excited to read this book. Unfortunately it was a disappointment because of the shallow characters (who are all beautiful) and the lack of research. You CANNOT get a drug approved by FDA without a phase 3 clinical trial. Sorry #notsorry

10. Prince Harry engaged: Favorite ship

32768522It’s so hard to choose!!!! I absolutely LOVE Damen and Laurent from the Captive Princes series, however, I have already talked about them. I equally ADORE Simon and Baz from Carry On, who have been living in my heart for long after I read this book!

11. Star Wars The Last Jedi: Most anticipated book.

I am not too good at keeping track of which books will be released next month or next year, so I don’t have a list of books I am anticipating.

HOWEVER, that being said, I’ve been loving everything that Jasmine Warga writes, so my most anticipated release in 2018 will have to be Other Words for Home.

And that’s it!

I won’t tag anyone, however, if you like this tag and want to do it as well, consider yourself tagged!

Do you also feel like 2017 has just flown by!? What are your favourite books of 2017? What is your favourite book cover? Which author(s) take your money?! 🙂

  3. Great answers for this tag Sophie, and oh I agree with so many of your choices as well. Our Dark Duet was a brilliant sequel, and it definitely topped This Savage Song for me to, also yes it’s hard to beat Lila when it comes to amazing and kick ass female protagonists! 😀
Illuminae is such a beautiful book (it completely blew me away as well) and Simon and Baz are probably one of my ultimate YA ships. I just love those two character so much. 🙂
Again great picks, and great post as well. 😀 ❤

      1. Oh I love it when characters surprise you when writing, I feel like you learn so much more about your characters when you’re actually writing them you know?
Thanks so much Sophie! 😀 ❤

  4. I have forever loved the “They Both Die at the End” cover as well! Although that title keeps preventing me from picking it up!

    1. Yes the title kind of gives away the ending, doesn’t it? It is a sad book in a way but I do find that the message is uplifting. I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it 🙂

  5. Wow, I didn’t realize Upside was THAT diverse??? I of course knew that it was pretty diverse, but I had no idea that there was a pan girl, and that Molly was born via sperm donation! I want to read this even more now hahaha.

And yes, I 100% agree with ODD being better than TSS! I still loved TSS a lot, but ODD was just sooo beautiful and dark, and I loved ODD a whole lot more!

    1. Hi May 🙂 🙂 Yes! The Upside is a super diverse book. It is also very cute and gave me warm and fuzzy feelings. Hope that you will read this one day and that you will enjoy it as much as I did 🙂
Yes I also found that ODD is a darker book though not in a bad way! The ending is sad but beautiful
Have a happy new year May 🙂 ❤
