Seven-Day B&W Photo Challenge: Colour & Explanations

Seven-Day B&W Challenge-2

Hello everyone!

Last week, I took on the 7-day B&W photo challenge. It was super fun to take photos of things that are important to me. However, the hardest part was that I could not explain what each photo was about!

So…………. I am making a post with the explanations. After being inspired by Darren @ The Arty Plantsman‘s post, I also decided to show you guys the colour versions of my photos.

Hopefully, you will learn a bit more about me, my life and my quirky hobbies :’)

Day1

This is the medium-sized city where I’ve been living and working for the past 2.5 years. Although it is not my hometown (Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China) or where my family lives (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), it is starting to feel like home. I will miss this city when I move across the country in January!

Day2.jpg

This is my greyhound, Charles (who you may remember from my previous blog posts!) When not eating, he can be found (very reliably) on his comfy dog bed.

Day3

Aside from blogging, reading and writing, I also love crafts. My friends and I met for a crafting day. We painted our own wine glasses!

Day5

This is the pair of drinking glasses that I painted for my friend, featuring her two kitties.

Day4

As some of you guys have guessed, this is the Scrivener file for my WIP (the research and plotting stages.) It is also the location in my home where I do my blogging, reading, and writing.

Pssst… See that table underneath? My dad and I made that! (Crafty genes run in the family :P)

Day6

Instead of buying Christmas cards, I thought it would be more personal to draw my own. In case you guys are wondering: the left-most card features a pair of ornaments, and the words “I like hanging with you”. (Isn’t that so cute!?)

Day7.jpg

Since I am moving across the country and leaving my current workplace soon, I also have many thank you cards to draw and write! This is my ongoing DIY project.

PS. I would absolutely have to credit Pinterest for the kitty glasses and the card designs. I could never have come up with those on my own :’)

Did any of these explanations surprise you? Do you like the black & white or colour versions better? Do you have a pet (or want to have one?) Do you like DIY and crafts?

  1. I knew you’d do such a post! Can’t say I’m surprised, the photos were self explanatory and fitting with what we know of you (not a bad thing unless you were aiming for a surprise).
For such a project I prefer b&w too and yes I’m also a diy person!

    1. Hi Michael!
Looks like you know me well haha! And you might be psychic, since you foresaw this post 🙂 I wasn’t aiming for a surprise, so it is good to hear that the photos explained themselves!
That’s awesome that you do diy as well. What kind of projects do you do?

      1. Lol, I am not psychic (and the jury is still out on whether I am psychotic) it’s just what I felt was “right”, what I’d do in a similar situation! It seems we are quite alike (of course you are definitely more cute, lol).
I used to be a modeller (you know planes, tanks, trains etc) and I am always fixing things at home. My latest project was pallet furniture for our veranda (you can see the pics in instagram).

      2. Lol! That’s very cool that you used to be a modeler and that you can fix things. I will take a look at those pictures!

      3. You’re welcome! However I couldn’t find a picture of your veranda!

      4. WOW that is amazing!!!!!! I could never have guessed that those were hand made! Did you follow a tutorial or video? How long did that take?

      5. Thank you! It took me around 10 afternoons and I’ve watched a couple of vids but mostly it was common sense and improvising.

  4. Great post Sophie, and I loved the explanations behind your photos. Wow your cards and those drinking glasses are so amazing, I’d love to be able to do something like that myself but I’m not all that art-y. Also your dog is just as adorable in colour as he is in black and white. ❤
Again great post, and I've loved seeing all your photos over the past seven days, and again today in colour! 😀 ❤

    1. Thank you Beth for your sweet comment ❤ I wish I could take all the credit, but much of the inspiration goes to Pinterest!
Aw yes Charles is very cute ❤ Hope you and your greyhound are both doing well 🙂

      1. That’s all right, and I think you can still take most of the credit, it’s still your art after all even if you were inspired by Pinterest! 😀
        He’s adorable, and thanks Sophie! 🙂 ❤

You are not the only one who say that they like the B&W photos better, which I find interesting 🙂 Thanks for dropping by and have a great day!

  6. I had no idea you were so amazing at card-designing — and your calligraphy is so pretty 😍 I’ve recently got a book on calligraphy, and thought I definitely could improve on it, there’s something so relaxing about calligraphy that I love 😊 I’m a fan of handmade cards too! I feel like people appreciate a card I give to them so much more if it’s handmade, and I love it when I receive handmade cards myself because the thought that someone sat down and took time out of their day to make something for me feels so wonderful 😄 I enjoyed reading your stories behind the pictures!

That's awesome to hear that you like calligraphy! I think I remember your post about the calligraphy book recently. It sounds like something that is fun to learn. All the best!
Yes I also love to receive handmade and crafty items as gifts, since it shows a lot of thought 🙂
