My WIP aesthetics! (and a snippet!)

Blog_wippet

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you everyone for sending me good wishes after my pole dancing accident two weeks ago! You guys are such sweeties! Thankfully, I am back in one piece and, yes, back to pole dancing, although I have toned down on my daredevil-ness (for the time being……..)

SO, a few things happened last week, with respect to writing/blogging:

a) I got addicted to making aesthetics. I swear, it’s like a drug; and

b) After being inspired by Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books and Lauren @ My Paper Infinity‘s story and character aesthetics, I decided to make my own! (Do check out their posts if you want to see some super awesome aesthetics!!)

… and because of these reasons, today is going to be a slightly different WIPPet post 🙂

Here are a few words about my WIP: (Some of which you may recognize if you’ve been following my snippets for a while!)

  • Dr. Google
  • That awesome city in Canada called TORONTO ❤
  • A punky Asian rockstar
  • References to: Taylor Swift, Hedley, Monet, Van Gogh, Italian architects, and How to Win Friends and Influence People
  • Lots of #awkwardmoments
  • Mike drops
  • Cheating
  • Snooping
  • Forgiving
  • Chicken noodle soup
  • A trigger warning
  • The funniest kissing scene you may ever read 🙂

Aaaand without further ado, here are my character aesthetics! I am SO SO SO excited (and a teensy bit nervous) to share these with you guys 🙂

AND last but not least, my snippet for today:

As you may remember, Rudy is sweet, good-looking, and has legions of fangirls. He’s just not so great at fending them off (which may have something to do with him being Olivia’s ex-boyfriend.) In today’s snippet, however, Olivia and Rudy reconnect over lunch:

There is something about speaking to someone who once was close, who you once confided in, who once was your best friend even before you started sharing a bed. You know how to talk to him, and he knows how to listen for the words that are unsaid. It’s like travelling from one island to another. You don’t have to swim, because there is a bridge that is already built.

Olivia tells Rudy about what happened afterwards. As she speaks, she feels lighter, as if all these words have been weighing on her chest, and they are now being set free.

WIPPet Math: 101 words for 9/20 (9 + 2 = 11, then slip in the 0 between the 1s)

WIPpet Wednesdays is a blog hop where writers can share a snippet from their WIP. The only stipulation is that the excerpt is somehow related to the date. Be sure to check out some of the other lovely WIPpet snippets here. Thank you Emily Wrayburn for hosting.

New snippets are posted each week. Click here for previous snippets 🙂

Are you a daredevil, or are you cautious and level-headed? What are some words that you would use to describe your WIP? Do you have aesthetics for your story/characters? OR, are you going to make some? (If so, please share!!!)

    1. Thank you! Haha yes we call Wednesday hump day because we are getting over the “hump” and it will be the weekend soon 🙂

      1. Nice! We have a saying in greek with the same meaning but no word per se.

      2. It’s always very interesting that some sayings are similar between different languages 🙂 I was just thinking today that in English, we say “thick skin” (which means able to handle criticism well), and in Chinese, we say “thick face” which means the same thing 🙂

      3. Interesting! In greek we also “thick skinned” (usually as adjective) with the same (a bit stronger actually) meaning.

      4. I didn’t know that was a Greek saying as well 🙂 nice!

  3. Those are gorgeous. I’d never heard of doing character aesthetics, but that’s such a great idea. I pinned stuff in Pinterest related to my novels, but this is even better.

Love the snippet, and yes, I think I agree with her about having someone to confide in who knows you that well.

    1. Hello AM! For some reason this ended up in my spam box so I didn’t see your comment until now (which is weird because that never happened to any of your previous comments) :’)

Thank you! I started off by finding images related to my characters on Pinterest, which sounds similar to what you are doing. Then I combine the images together using Fotor (a free and very user-friendly program). It is super fun – I think I can spend hours making aesthetics for my characters 🙂

  5. OH SOPHIE. Your aesthetics are GORGEOUS, I’m so glad you did this! I’m a little bit in love with Olivia’s one, though all of the others look SO great just as well. This makes me want to read your story even more ❤ How's the writing going? 🙂

    1. Hi Marie! Thank you! I am so glad that you like these aesthetics 🙂 Seeing your post gave me the idea to make my own 🙂

Writing is going all right! However, my characters are doing things that catch me by surprise. It makes writing more fun, but now I am trying to figure out where the plot is going from here 🙂 How is your WIP going?

      1. Ahah oh, I get that feeling. It’s strange, but also quite great, when characters are just doing their own thing. I hate having to figure out where to go from here, though, when you end up somewhere completely unexpected. I hope you’ll have fun writing, though 🙂
It’s going pretty good… I can see the end ahhhhhh.

      2. Haha yes! That’s exactly what I’m going through with my characters! Though I think I know where it’s going?

That’s great that your writing is going well and that you can see the end!!! I tend to feel a burst of writing juices towards the end and everything flows more smoothly. Happy writing this weekend 🙂

  6. These are incredible aesthetics Sophie, I already need to know more about your characters just because I love their pictures so much. I especially love the one you created for Zelda because it’s just so bright it makes me happy seeing it.
Also great snippet, you’ve definitely succeeded in making me want to know more about your story. 🙂

  7. Love the aesthetics idea! I might just have to try it. And the WIPpet… I can’t imagine being able to talk to my ex about anything. It just isn’t possible. Glad Olivia can.

    1. I really like making them, hope that you will give it a try 🙂

Yes it is hard to talk to exes. I could only talk to one of my exes years after we broke up. I think Olivia really needed to get something off her chest here
