Hello everyone!
Today I am going to try something different. WIPpet Wednesdays is a blog hop where writers can share a snippet from their WIP (Work in Progress). The only stipulation is that the excerpt is somehow related to the date. In this case, I am posting 6 paragraphs from chapter 7 (for June 7th)
Be sure to check out some of the other lovely WIPpet snippets here. Thank you Emily Witt for hosting.
My current project is a new-adult novella titled Together We Will Live Forever (tentative.) It tells the story of Olivia, a neuroscience grad student and an aspiring artist, and Matt, a single father and the janitor of an art gallery. This excerpt is from Matt’s perspective:
Matt hadn’t forgotten. He approached the hallway and the first door on the left, across from the bathroom. The door that was always closed.
Dread trickled into his stomach, and then guilt, because he shouldn’t feel dread. He closed his eyes for a moment. Taking a breath, he grasped the brass doorknob in his hands. It was cold.
He had opened this door hundreds, perhaps thousands, of times.
Once, she would be curled between the sheets, her back turned away, the curves of her body accentuated by the sun’s rays through the window. He would climb into bed with her, his body curled over hers, resting his arm over the smooth curve of her waist.
Now, Matt twisted the doorknob, giving the door a push. In front of him stretched a large and empty room. A layer of dust had settled over the floor.
What had once been laughter, now silence, what had once been full, now empty, what had once been present, her, now absent.
WIP math: 6 paragraphs from chapter 7 (June 7th)
What are you working on right now? Do you have a snippet to share?
Cheers,
Sophie
